CHAPTER 3 – IF ONLY TEARS COULD BRING YOU BACK
~ AT THE SAME TIME ~
Arora starred at herself blankly in her bedroom mirror, Bianca was right, she was hiding herself away from everything, and too scared she’d fall again. All she really wanted to do was move past everything, she wanted her life back, one where she didn’t think about him every waking moment. She wondered if she’d made a mistake earlier, perhaps she should have listened to him, tried to understand why he left and why he was back. She sighed loudly flopping down onto her double bed. Maybe it was all worth a second go.
~ AT THE SAME TIME ~
Bianca pulled herself up off the couch to answer the faint knock on the door. She pulled it open to see Brian’s face looking timidly back at her, a slight drizzle of raining falling behind him as he stood on the door step.
“What are you doing here?” Bianca demanded
“Please Bianca, I just need to see Arora” Brian responded quietly
“Why? So you can hurt her again? Look Brian, you’re a nice guy and all, but you hurt her, please just let her try and piece back together some sort of life”
“Bianca, I need you to understand, I made the biggest mistake of my life one year ago, I let my life go, and every since that I’ve been nothing”
“So what couldn’t you tell her that before, why now Brian, why one year later?”
“Because it’s taken me this long to pull up the courage to be here”
“I'm sorry Brian, but she wont see you, just leave” Bianca said softly, hoping it was the right thing to do.
“Please –“
“Brian, just leave”
Bianca closed the door slowly, guilt riddling her body, but she had to for Arora’s sake. Brian wandered mindlessly back down the stairs into what had now become a steady rain. He knew he deserved everything he got, he knew he shouldn’t have thought for one moment she’d still care about him – he had no right to think that. He’d broken it off, he’d made the mistake, now he was living with it – or more to the point, slowly dying with it.
The door flung back open as Bianca appeared on the doorstep.
“Fifth window from the left, just don’t break her heart again Brian, and I don’t even know if she’ll listen to you”
“That’s all I need Bianca, thank you”
“Yeah well, take care Brian” Bianca said quietly as she retreated back into the house, closing the door behind her.
Brian ran over counting the windows as he went, the fifth one along, the light was on, but the blinds closed. All he needed was to tell her how he felt, even if she shot him down in flames, he had to tell her, she had to know. He cleared his throat, he’d tell her the best way he knew how – with song. He’d been practicing the song day in and day out, hoping one day he’d get the guts to sing it to her, to let her know how he felt. He had his guitar in his hands, the notes forged into his head. He began the first cord – the sweet soft sound of the music echoing into the crystal night. The rain the beat slowly down didn’t bother him – he wouldn’t let it.
“How will I solve, tomorrow without you here, who’s love will guide me, when all the answers disappear, is it too late? Are you too far gone to stay? Best friends forever should never have to go away….”
Arora heard the soft voice charging up into the night, she was drawn immediately to the window, her eyes peeking through the blinds. She pulled back the blinds and looked down.
“Brian please leave” Arora pleaded as he looked up at her, the steady rain beating down on him
“….What will I do? You know I'm only half without you, how will I make it through. If only tears could bring you back to me, if only love could find a way, what I would do, what I would give, if you return to me to me, someday, somehow, somewhere, if my tears could bring you back to me” Brian sung, determined not to stop, as droplets of tears formed in his eyes
“Brian please don’t, I cant deal with this” Arora cried turning her head away
“Arora I love you, and I'm sorry”
“Please just go” she muttered beginning to walk away from the window.
“I’d cry you an ocean, if you’d sail on home again, waves of emotion will carry you I know they can, just let love guide you, and your heart will jot the course, soon you’ll be drifting into the arms of your true north, look in my eyes you’ll see a million tears have gone by and still they’re not dry”
As he sung the rain became heavier as if trying to drown him out, her back was to him, but he refused to give up – not ever.
“If only tears could bring you back to me, if only love could find a way, what I would do, what I would give, if you return to me to me, someday, somehow, somewhere, if my tears could bring you back to me…I hold you close, and say the words I only wished were before, for one more chance, for one last dance beside you, is something I would not ignore….”
He saw her leave the room, and a few minutes later the front door opened, and she stepped out onto the front porch, the rain belting down around her. Brian dropped his guitar and ran up to her, his hair sopping wet with the rain.
“Go home Brian” she said softly
“Not until I tell you, not until you know”
“Know what?”
“That I love you”
“I used to believe that Brian, now I'm not so sure”
“Please Arora, I spent the last year of my life hating myself because I made the biggest mistake of my life, I ruined the best thing that every happened to me, and I cant just walk away now”
“You told me you didn’t love me” Arora called over the sound of the billowing rain
“I told you that because I did love you, I didn’t want to hold you down, or hold you back, I wanted you to be the best you could, and I thought that meant you’d need to be without me”
“Well you thought wrong Brian”
“I know, god I know, I was wrong, I was so unbelievably wrong, but please let me make that up to you”
“I don’t think so Brian, things have changed, I’ve changed, please just leave”
She walked back inside, and closed the door, the tears beckoning for release, and it wasn’t long before they were streaming down her face – she was in all honestly to scared to fall for Brian again, because he had meant the world to her, and she couldn’t allow another world to be crushed with false hopes.
“I love you Arora, and I wont ever give up, not ever” Brian whispered the rain drops freezing against his lips, as he backed away from the door.
~ AT THE SAME TIME ~
“Tatum, someone’s on the phone for you” Alika called into the lounge where Tatum was sitting
She pulled herself up from the couch and took the phone from Alika’s hands.
“Hello, Tatum speaking”
“Tatum?”
“That’s what I said”
“How does it feel?”
The voice for some reason sounded vaguely familiar, though Tatum couldn’t place it.
“How does what feel?”
“Pulling the trigger” the voice laughed
“Who the fuck is this?”
“Your nightmare” he laughed before hanging up
“God some people are so pathetic” Tatum muttered hanging the phone up “I mean if their fans, then why do they pull all this shit” she added walking back into the lounge
“Who was it?” Alika inquired
“Dunno, some fruit-loop” Tatum replied
The buzzing sound of the intercom broke the conversation.
“Yeah?” Tatum spoke down the intercom
“It’s Matt you gonna let me up?”
“Alika it’s you pathetic excuse for a boyfriend, should we let him up?” Tatum laughed her finger still down on the “talk” button
“Um dunno” Alika laughed
“Hey come on, I can hear you” Matt announced
“Alright, come up” Tatum grinned buzzing him up.
~ 10 MINUTES LATER ~
Chastity flicked around her shoulder length hair as she wrapped the soft towel around her body. The rain was coming down heavier now the sound of pelting rain echoing off the windows. Chastity sulked into her room closing the door behind her.
“Chas?” AJ said softly as he opened the door.
Chastity jumped in fright.
“For gods sakes, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” she stuttered clutching onto her towel
“Sorry, I came in before, but I heard you in the bath” AJ apologized
“Yeah well, what do you want?”
“Is it me or do you see it too?”
“See what?”
“We’re slipping apart, we don’t talk, we argue”
“Really? I never noticed” Chastity mumbled sarcastically
“Do you want out of this Chas? Cause if you do just say the words”
“Is that just a simple way of saying you want out?”
“That’s not what I said”
“But is it what you’re thinking?”
“God Chastity stop putting this onto me, don’t you see there is nothing more I want in this world than you, but I also don’t want to hold you if you don’t want to be held. I love you Chastity, and I need to know if this love is two sided” AJ announced in one breath
Chastity looked across at him, slowly a smile forming on her face.
“You love me?” she inquired
“Yes, of course I do, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t”
Chastity raced across the room, into his arms, her slightly wet hair flicking onto his shirt.
“Alexander James McLean, I love you too” she whispered quietly
~ AT THE SAME TIME ~
Arora grabbed her keys from the table and ran without a second thought to the front door.
“Where you off to?” Bianca inquired from the lounge
Arora spun around a look of desperation on her face.
“Please don’t ask me that, just try to understand” she responded as she pulled the door open
Bianca watched helpless as Arora disappeared into the storm of the night.
Arora’s head was filled with confusion, right now she didn’t even know what she was doing – she just knew where she was going. The rain slammed against the windshield as the wipers struggled to keep up the pace.
It wasn’t long before the roads had lead her the house. She stepped out into the cold rain, ignoring the wet feeling pushing against her thin jacket. The wind spun her loose hair in all directions as she starred up at the house – unsure of what she should do next.
