Green Aphanith's Mating Flight
Written by Jengra, Green Aphanith's rider

"Aphanith's been getting a little proddy I've noticed.." Sela says slyly.
Jengra sighs and gives her best friend a long look, "Yes, she has. She's also a lot greener and her thoughts always seem to be holding an impatient yet excited tone." Jengra smiles and Sela laughs and they both go back to their job of gathering herbs for medicine.
"Which dragon do you think will fly her?" Sela asks sweetly. Jengra laughs, "Well I hope.." She stops suddenly for Aphanith's thoughts had suddenly turned wild with wanting. "She's rising!" Jengra cries out and races to the feeding grounds.
"Rising? Aphanith? Wait!" Sela drops her things and chases after Jengra and reaches her at the feeding grounds where she stands watching her dragon. Aphanith was shrieking at the top of her lungs for the male dragons and the attention of everyone else.
Aphanith rose quickly and snatched a herdbeast in her sharp talons and landed on a ledge with her kill. "Control her!" Sela yelled and backed away into the crowd that had gathered.
Jengra concentrated and ordered Aphanith to drink from its throat. The green dragon screamed defiantly and after several attempts to eat the soft flesh she drank from the throat. Four large blues had gathered and were hissing at each other and crouching low and extending their wings for the nearing flight.
Aphanith had just finished a second buck and was now greedily drinking from a nearby wherry's neck. She now realized that she must fly fast and far ahead of the waiting blues. She began to shimmer and glow. Hissing and flicking her long tounge out to lick her mouth, she crouched, extended her large wings, and propelled herself into the sky. Four blurry blue shapes follow quickly behind and a loose cluster of men formed around Jengra, but she ignored them for she was now Aphanith, soaring in the evening sky.
The green dragon sensed the presence of the blues behind her but ignored them. She flew high into the clouds and with alarming speed dove down straight towards the males who scattered in confusion. She lifted up just in time and crooned with pleasure as they tried to regain their lost speed. One, blue Solath, dropped out and she crowed laughingly at him. Turning her attention back to the others, she began flying in circles around them and darting around and in between them, daring them to try and catch her.
After shooting ahead to try and catch the green, one dragon, Ordreth, dropped down back to the feeding grounds tiredly.
Aphanith folded her wings and shot straight between the 2 remaing blues. They leaped to the side and struggled to regain altitude. The green merely crooned and flew higher into the sky. She flew down again and snapped at their hides and quickly pulled higher up before they had time to react.
For a time, she forgot about the males and the flight for the mere joy of her newfound speed and fun. After awhile, she began to get bored and twisted her head around to see blue Adath and blue Prototh still following. She folded her wings and flew not far ahead of them. They looked tired she noticed, rather amused. She crooned at them and rolled around in circles in front of them and began waving her tail tantalizingly in their faces.
Suddenly they both gathered speed and shot straight towards her, determined to catpure her. She screached angrily and dove down, hissing at them.
They pulled away just as they were about to collide with each other and twisted around and flew not far above Aphanith. Adath, getting impatient, folded his wings and dove quickly down, prepared to catch her. Prototh screamed angrily at him and shot directly at Aphanith knocking her out of the way and quickly enfolded his wings with hers just as Adath reached her. Aphanith shook her head free of the dizzy feeling of being knocked into and bugled demandingly to be set free but found alarmingly that she could not move and was falling downward rapidly. Prototh twisted his neck and tail tightly around hers, spread his wings, and together they fell!
Jengra sighed and both she and D'vian's, Blue Prototh's rider, minds slowly returned to them and they mentally called their dragons back to them after the tiring flight had ended. They stood together, hand in hand, and waited for their dragons to return. The watching dragons and riders bugled and cheered for the successful flight.
Sela smiled and cheered happily for her friend. Grinning, she broke away from the crowd and returned to her chores...
