Mating

As the days pass, you sense an odd change in your dragon's personality, so you wisely decide to go and see what is the matter. You seek out the weyrleader since you figure that he'd have the best knowledge of what was happening. You find him in his office, a rather large place with a dragon-sized ledge outside the big window opening and many glows lite the corners of his office.

You tell him the symptoms of your problem and he smiles knowlingly. Apparently, from what he says, this isn't such an uncommon problem. You ask him what the matter is and he prompty leans foward and tells you to watch for when your dragon's color darkens. You realize what he means: your big baby is going to rise to mate soon! With this in the corner of your mind, you ask him if there are any rules you'll need to know when your lifemate rises to mate. This must not be too uncommon as he diects you to a well-worn hide posted on one wall of his office. "I've taken the liberty to write down some rules I've discovered over the years. Most of the rules are the ones commonly not actually spoken. I guess those you should know already, but, anyway. Also, Bretta looked over these rules and I think I saw her adding to them- so, beware!" He smiles and goes back to his work while you study the sheet.

Rules

1. Your dragon's adult stage must be up, as only adult dragons can rise!

2. The male dragon that catches a female dragon is determined solely on the preference of the female dragon and her rider. Or in other words, she decides who flies her dragon.

3. Aden Weyr female dragons may rise to mate only once (total) at either Aden or Aneris Weyr. This rule goes for all females except for the Senior Queen, as she decides on her own. Aden male and female dragons may rise to mate only at Aden or Aneris Weyr, no other Weyr. Aden dragons need clearance from me, Weyrwoman Bretta, to rise to mate at any other Weyr (other than Aden and Aneris) or to rise to mate more than once (females only).

4. Mating flight stories are optional and may be written by the rider of one of the paired dragons. If you'd like a mating flight story and do not want to write it, I'll ask the winning male dragon's rider first. Then I'll ask someone from the Writer's Guild to write it. Hatching stories will be written by the female dragon's rider. I'll do minor editing if needed, but unfortunately am unable to spend the time to write them myself.

5. Gold clutches will contain anywhere from 12 to 17 eggs. Green clutches can have seven to thirteen eggs. Female White clutches have 5 eggs on average, give or take a few eggs. The number of eggs in a clutch will also be decided on how much I like the mating flight story- a wonderful story will result in higher numbers of eggs being laid than a story with no effort.

6. Once a female dragon announces a flight, a slot will appear on the list of females to fly and might be immediately opened, as of now, there is a waiting list. The male dragons that fill out the form to participate in the flight before the slots fill will get to chase the female. You may only sign up for one flight at a time. Once your dragon sires a clutch, he may participate in future flights, but sire only two more.

8. The colors that are allowed to fly each female will be listed with the other flight information and might vary from flight to flight. Note: green dragons ridden by males will not have flights resulting in clutches due to the effects of chewing firestone. Male blue or brown dragons ridden by females may sign up to fly female dragons.
