Personal Miscellany
Music Album
Aditi The literal meaning of 'Aditi' is endless, boundless, infinite. Aside from being the artist's name, this one word epitomizes the sense of hope and faith that has inspired this album, that finds its voice in this album. If life is a journey then this album serves as a musical travelling companion. It takes you through every mood and sentiment - asks you to dance unashamedly and to cry unabashedly - and yet it steers you back to a serene equilibrium and a sublime perspective. The melodies reflect the harmonious blending of East and West and the co-existence of the traditional and contemporary. Delicate strains of the flute, santoor, sarangi, shehnai, sitar, tanpura, dholak, pakhavaj and tabla blend effortlessly with the rich sounds of the acoustic guitar, bass guitar, harps, panpipes, piano, saxophone and violin. The lyrics reflect the synergy of emotion and intellect and the co-existence of a childish naivity and optimism with a more mature profundity and sobriety. In essence it is an optimistic celebration of the 'joie de vivre' (joy of life) combined with a serene acceptance of its inevitable trials and challenges.
What makes this album unique is that the lyrics are versatile and can be interpreted to fit your own personal requirements. Each song has a more apparant and prosaic meaning and, at the same time, a deeper and more abstract message. It is your song and, depending on your mood and inclination, can be mundane or sublime. This is your custom made album of personally suited songs. For the artist personally it represents a celebration of what is, an acceptance of what can not be, and a hope for what is to be. Which she has endeavoured to put to music. To share with you...
Music Samples
Chhupa Lo Click on the title above to hear a sample from a semi-clasical song performed live in concert in London, without musical accompaniment. The reverb and ticking is due to the quality of recording in the concert hall
Transcendental Click on the title above to hear a small sample from a studio session with Greg Ellis ((whose compositions can be heard on the soundtracks of films such as The Matrix, Fight Club and Lara Croft: Tombraider and The Chronicles of Narnia) in Los Angeles. This was actually a vioce test that ended up on a CD!
