Earthworks Photography
I began doing 'earthworks' and rock-balancing sculpture in 1996 while living in Nanaimo, BC. Having seen a team of artists in Vancouver balancing rocks, i decided to up the scale and balance multiple rocks to form towers. The photo at right was one of the first sculptures I did.

Since then my work has developed into a more range of expressions. Using rock, driftwood, bark, leaves, dirt, snow and even fire. I found the work of Andy Goldsworthy and was inspired to push myself further.

Typically, my work is managable in size - under 7 feet in height. Although I have buildt a 25 foot cairn once. I often build earthworks wherever I travel - Washington, Idaho, Montana, Scotland & the Bahamas to name a few. In 1998 I did an installation show at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery in Calgary which involved trucking in 3.5 tonnes of rock from the BC-Alberta border.

Photos of my work are featured on a Greeting Card line. I generally do this type of art for the pure enjoyment of it, but have been offered contracts for building them in gardens, office lobbies and for advertizing agencies.
