This page is here to archive older news from this site. If you happen to be looking for a specific time when something was released or are interested in the development of this site, you'll probably find the information here.
What's news? After a bit of a hiatus, the Adult Interactive Fiction Archive is back! Same great site, just with a new maintainer.
Recently, this site has had some service outages due to apparent huge amounts of traffic and downloads. At the current time, no changes are being made to our content. If it becomes necessary to make changes, games will probably be the first thing to be removed. Everyone seems to think of the IFFG as a great resource for game authors. Games are available at other sites, as well as from the file server I run on my machine. IF it becomes necessary, I will narrow the focus to authoring. Right now, nothing has changed.
You may notice some minor changes in layout and various updates. More changes to come after the first of the year. Some updates and layout changes on the FAQ have also been added.
You guessed it, another game release. Adam Hendine has released another game. Academy of Spies is available in the Files section. Maybe we should wonder what is coming out next month. Whoa, and check out the Resources section, now with links to interpreters and programming tools!
More new releases! All of a sudden people are appearing from nowhere and games are popping up like weeds. It's almost like AIF Christmas in July! Another release by Adam Hendine called Peril in the Skies, and Duchess of Desire which is our second ADRIFT release. Both available from the Files section.
Some recent releases in the AIF world. First was Blade's graphical Buffy: Call of the Siren, which can be found at the Blade Games site.
We've also had two other releases. Theatre: A Knight at the Opera by Adam Hendine. Theatre is a TADS game, so you will need an interpreter for it.
Another newcomer to the world of AIF is bluewaterfall's Legend of Akhbar. This game presents us with a new AIF author, a game written from the female perspective, and our first work written using ADRIFT.
Both Theatre and Legend are available in our Files section. Due to space constraints, Call of the Siren is only linked to.

What's new? Well this site has been redesigned a bit. Recent
news will be found right here from now on. Older news will be on a separate
page. The are some cosmetic updates to the code that you probably won't notice
much, but they are there none the less. A major addition is the ArKane File
Server, which I'm reasonably sure we've got working right now. Thanks to Chaz
for help with testing and suggesting. See the AFS
page for more information.
Also, in case you may have missed the first time this was announced, the AIF Webring has been closed. There wasn't enough interest, or usage. Besides, most of the established sites link to the others, so it was a bit redundant.
12/2000
There has been a recent explosion of modules being released, mostly beta,
but still, anything that helps in programming AIF easier is a welcome
addition. We recently got our hands on Sir Gareth's updated set of libraries,
and yes, after much patient waiting, we have Newkid's Chick libraries! (Both
available in the Codebase section.)
11/3/2000
Version 1 of my layered clothing module for TADS is now available in the codebase.
10/18/2000
Not much new right now. I think there are a lot of people tied up with the IFComp games. I have to be different of course. While everyone isn't wondering what is going on here, I've been updating the layered clothing module I was working on. The updated version is in the Codebase section.
10/2/2000
The much awaited Chick libraries by Newkid is here! We also have an update of Sir Gareth's libraries.
9/9/2000
I'm in the process of updating the site. A general overhaul of
the HTML to get it more in standard. The FAQ is being updated. I'm also
looking into what is involved with making the FAQ official.
Testing an e-mail based file server that will help alleviate some of the bandwith hits that the AIF sites are taking by providing an alternate way to get files. Once this is working I will be removing the Xtrek games from the website to make room for other games and resources.
8/31/2000
New code is good code! Sir Gareth has released a few libraries that can be
found in the files section. We've also added the game Luola by Garfunkel. I
have also put up my own layered clothing module, which is a beta version, but
progress is being made.
7/6/2000
Some updates and links in the codebase area. A TADS extension for
layered clothing is being tested right now. I hope to have a formal
release within the next month or so.

As most of you know, I have an idea about ideas. I was scouring some
back postings from AGX and some e-mail and have some new ideas in the
idea section.
The FAQ has been updated a little, but it's still very much a work in progress...
1/31/2000
OK, so there should be a couple of sites on the WebRing by the time you
finish reading this. What else is new? We've got Rap's WAIF in the
writing section, Craxton's reviews in the review section, ideas, ideas,
ideas, oh, and did I mention IDEAS?
1/27/2000
Whew, is there any news? Hell yes. Rap has released the first version of
his Writing Adult Interactive Fiction, and you'll be able to find
it here soon. What else? You mean you need more!? Well hey, the rumours
were true. There's an AIF WebRing now. You can find it around here
somewhere. Look closely!
1/8/2000
A rough draft of the AGX FAQ has been posted. Work is progressing on the Web Ring.
12/22/99
I'll be hosting Craxton's Hentai reviews once I've got a little time to
get them formatted. The review section is open, I just need some
reviews! I'm getting some info together about writing IF, and I've got a
general ramble about what I think one needs to keep in mind when working
on AIF. Myths and rumblings about an AIF Webring?? All this and more in the
year 2000!
12/9/1999
Newkid has sent me an updated trailer for his work in progress, which is
now called The Wraith. It's available in the file area. Check it out! Oh,
and remember to be patient for the whole darn thing!!
Ok umm somebody posted or sent me a message that I didn't have enough files. Heh, I don't have enough time either, but hopefully the recent updates will keep you all happy until the retail nightmare that I call my life... errr job calms down.
11/25/1999
More news! Newkid has released a trailer from his work in progress. We
have it in the file area. Look for The Mist, try it out. Let him know if
you found any bugs so he can fix them up. Wait patiently for the
finished project!
11/5/1999
OK! We've got some great news. Optimus has released his version of
Deanna, an X-Trek simulation type game. It's available for download here
in the files section. Check it out, it has some interesting interaction
in it. Be sure to read everything, or you'll miss something. This is our
first game hosted here, another step forward for the IFFG site. Thanks
Optimus!
10/22/1999
I've added a couple of questions into the FAQ area on the resources
page. If you've got questions about AGT games running on faster
machines, the definitive answer is here. We even added a couple of
files! (No, not games yet, just utilities.)
There is a page with some ramblings about the AIF comp that was briefly mentioned in AGX a short time ago. Feel free to check it out and make comments.
10/14/1999
Well I've gotten some very nice feedback, and had a few glaring errors
in my setup and code pointed out. Thanks everyone for checking things
out and for all your comments!
10/12/1999
Right now the only news that I have is that this site is shaping up
rather nicely, at least if I do have to say so myself, which I do at the
moment. Tell me what you think. Go visit the feedback area!
I'm also working on a page with some ideas for an AIF competition the likes of the yearly IFComp for regular IF. As ideas come together this page will be updated.
