Affected's orgins come from the break up of my high school band the Sons of Liberty about three years ago when its members went off to college. Jeff Duprez and I, both of S.O.L., who stayed at home, casually jammed together for about a year and wrote a few songs. We decided our goal was to play a real show before we gave up. I talked my friend Joe into going to guitar center and spend a load of scratch on bass and amp to be in our band. He had no previous experience except some classic rock guitar skills. We finished the line up with our old drummer from S.O.L. Our drummer didn't seem to in to the band so one day we jamed with Joe's friend Jerad and he blew our freaking minds. A few months later in March of 2001 we played our first show. It was in the rear parking lot of a tiny (but awsome) BBQ place called Bam Bam's. 90 peole showed up at it was lots of fun, plus we got free food and they're still the only place that really paid us to play. A few months later we had our first venue show at the Chain Reaction. It was a battle of the bands to play in Smoke Out. Out of 200 bands that entered we made to the top 8, not bad for a couple month old band I say. We played many shows after that mostly at the Chain and had tons of fun. About ten monthes into the band Jeff, our guitar player quit. This lead to months of no Affected music. Eventually he wanted back in so we came back with a new meaner and much better sound. We were back and played a few shows at the Showcase Theater and Hogie Barmichals'. Practice time was hard to get and far apart so or progress was slow. Jeff didn't seem into the band any more so we hired my lttle bro Greg to fill in on the lead. This is about were we are now a year and a half since our first show, Our sound has changed and our lineup but I think we are at our best and the sky is the limit. Practice time is now easier to come buy and the ball is rolling for our start into being a proffesional band. |
