PURPOSE
Nigeria is a great source of basketball talent. There is absolutely no doubt in this. A good number of Nigerians basketball players have played in international leagues. Many are recruited to US and European High Schools, Colleges and Universities. Three have even made it to the NBA: Namely Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Olowokandi and Olumide Oyedeji.
However, accessing these potential Nigerian basketball talents is a very tedious and pain-staking process for scouts, let alone international basketball clubs and educational institutions. So is it surprising that only a very few lucky ones go through whereas most talents are disregarded?
Difficulties of the players themselves getting into contact with prospective teams or clubs to get their 15-minute chance to display their talents is an equally, if not more daunting task. Thus many don't have a way of connecting and just give up in frustration and utter despair.
The Solution
Through our "International Basketball Players Network" and
"International Basketball Directory" sites at:
http://www.internationalbasketball.net
http://www.oocities.org/internationalbasketballdirectory
and through our friendship with a major player from the Kano Pillars called Hussaini Musa Gumel, we proposed that he assembles 10 young players from his region (North Nigeria) playing on various positions and videotaping them in training and in an impromptu brief game. We promised to promote this tape through our "International Basketball Players Network" and "International Basketball Directory" site, particularly to colleges and universities and to some selective pro teams who can allow them a continuation of studies in addition to playing pro for their teams.
Now you can have the resulting 75-minute video at a very token price of US$15. If just a handful of our players get a decent chance, we would have accomplished our token service. We expect no referral fees nor do we represent the players. No hidden costs either.
Their guide who assembled this group of talented individuals is Hussaini Musa Gumel, a highly successful 6'3" shooting guard and point guard with the Kano Pillars (20 points, 6 assists, 3 steals per game and 50% 3-point and 90% free-throw shooter). He has also provided his 60-minute video expressing desire to play internationally at the professional level.
