Thought of the Day:
"Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas."
--Calvin Coolidge

Today's Friday Five questions seemed familiar, and I realized they are the same as last year's.

1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year?

Becoming a grandmother unexpectedly and loving it.

2. What was your biggest disappointment?

Being chosen to be laid off.

3. Will you be making any New Year's resolutions?

Just to make it a better year that prior ones.

4. Where will you be at midnight? Do you wish you could be somewhere else?

I will be watching Dick Clark's Rocking New Year's Eve. But, this time, Kim and her boyfriend will be in the crowd, so I'll be paying more attention than usual. One of Kim's Christmas gifts from her boyfriend was a trip to New York City on New Year's Eve.

5. Aside from (possibly) staying up late, do you have any other New Year's traditions?

Just taking down the Christmas tree on New Year's Day.

Hope everyone had a happy holiday! On Christmas Eve, John, Kevin, Ashley and I exchanged gifts as we traditionally do. MacKenzie was sleeping, so we waited until Thursday for MacKenzie to open her gifts, and everyone's stocking gifts. We had 8 stockings up this year: John's, mine, Kevin's, Ashley's, Kim's, one for the cat, one for the bunny, and a new stocking for MacKenzie.

Kim, Ashley and MacKenzie were over in the morning. They left to spend time with other family, and Sandy and her family came over for Christmas dinner. We had turkey, potatoes, stuffing, squash, corn, etc. We also had snack trays out that Sandy's son, Brandon, helped prepare. After dinner, John and I played euchre with Sandy and her boyfriend. For dessert, there was apple pie, pumpkin pie, cookies, and cheesecake. Everyone that had room for dessert went for the cheesecake, which I had made from scratch from a recipe I had found in a Country Ideals magazine. I have to admit, it was very good!

Ashley and MacKenzie came back in the evening to hang out with Kevin. One of the gifts I had given her was a sketch pad and artist pencils. Her first picture was of a zebra, which was quite impressive, at least in my humble opinion. We all relaxed while John watched his new Star Trek dvd. When Kim came back, we played euchre and watched my new "It's a Wonderful Life" dvd. A good time was had by all, and before we knew it, it was time to say goodnight. Ashley and MacKenzie went home, and Kim spent the night on the couch.

It was a very full day with a lot of happy times. I believe the most special moment of the day was when Sandy's two children asked John if he was Santa. Children make the holiday so special!

I have more holiday memories on the way, as we have more family to spend time with. I can't wait!

Thanks for reading!
Ann Marie
