I've been thinking about moving. Well, yes, thinking about moving to Florida, but also thinking about moving my blog from GeoCities.
I'm still undecided as to the "where to" part. This is where I need the advice of my readers.
Places I've considered are Blogger, Bravenet,
DiaryLand, Roadrunner, (where I have my home page, that I hasn't been updated in a while, taking up a lot of web space),
or Kurra's Place, who has offered to let me use some of her web space because she can not stand Geocities.
I'm also open to other suggestions, or I could just stay put at GeoCities.
Let me tell you why I am considering moving.
The annoying pop-up ad that GeoCities has on all their pages. Yes, it's easy to minimize it, but, well, it's annoying.
If I decide to ignore the pop-up ads and stay here, I will most likely have to move or delete archives because I'm getting close to the maximum amount of space in a free GeoCities account.
Or, I could create JustRambling2 on GeoCities, and keep the 2002-2004 archives here.
Wherever my blog ends up on 2005, it will have to be free.
I can justify the cost of internet access because it allows me to keep in contact with people who would otherwise be long distance, and I can use it for jobsearching and researching, among other things.
However, paying for a blog site is not an option at this time of my life when I have limited funds.
It would be a different story if my blog was self supporting, but I have yet to get a commission check from Just Rambling.
There have been many more click throughs on my shopping page than shoppers.
And, after reading Stephanie's horror stories, I'm considering eliminating the shopping page altogether, and advising people NOT to shop online anymore.
I got way off subject there. Back to a home for my journal:
Let's look at why I'm even blogging.
In the beginning, Stefani encouraged me to start.
The purpose of my online journal was to have a place for family and friends to visit, to ramble on about everything or nothing at all, a place to vent if need be, to share news, jokes, pictures, participate in memes, and to meet people with similar interests.
But, after a while, I realized I was also writing for me.
So many entries were written while I was either furious or depressed.
But, I would read what I wrote and view it with an entirely different perspective.
Even now, I'll look at older entries and laugh at something that had me so upset months or years ago.
But, anyhow, I'd like a home where I can keep blogging, but not have it take all my time away.
I've always hand-coded or copied and pasted, instead of using webpage software.
It would be easy enough to use Netscape Composer or Microsoft FrontPage, which are readily available to me on my computer.
But, I code with notepad as a text editor.
I find it easy to do it that way simply because that's the way I've always done it.
But, maybe it's time for a change?
So, in a nutshell, I'd prefer my new home for 2005 to not have annoying pop up ads, but be free, easy to use, and quick to post.
Any suggestions?
