Experiencing a "hands-on" activity!! | |||||||||||||||
FIELD BASE EXPERIENCE MODULE: In the past, the off-campus, "real" hands-on requirements were called an Internship. This component has been restructured for the education courses and is now referred to as Field Base Experience or FBE. Sixteen hours of off-campus/hands-on work are required for all education/teca courses except for TECA 1354. Students MUST read the FBE handbook prior to beginning their experience. Click HERE to go to that page. The FBE education student will wear the TJC student ID card when on a ISD campus. You may pick up a "pocket" to hold your card at my office in J159. Remember that you are a guest on the campus you choose. You are expected to comply with any rules or regulations any other volunteer in their district is required to follow. Most districts require a criminal background check. The applications are on their websites in most cases. If you have a problem finding it, let me know. If you are returning to a school district that you worked with last semester, you probably will not be required to have another background check done. Most schools will not let you begin your FBE until they have received the report. You will submit a series of Prompts related to your experience. At the end of your hours, you will write a Field Base Experience report. You must complete your experience by April 15 unless otherwise noted on your course Assignment Due Page. Every attempt has been made to correct the wording on this web site. If you come across a reference to "Intern" or "Internship," please notify the instructor so that it may be corrected. How to get started with your FBE 1. Choose a school campus at which youÕd like to do your Field Base Experience. 2. Notify your instructor of your campus choice. 3. Check the campus and district website to see if you will need a background check. If you worked in that district last semester, you probably wonÕt need another one. 4. Contact the principal to set a time to talk about you volunteering on that campus. 5. Make an appointment to meet the principal and arrange your time to work. 6. Wear Sunday dress clothes to meet the principal; be on time. 7. Set up a time for you to do your hours. 8. Be absolutely sure that you meet the schedule you arrange with the principal or designated contact person. 9. Submit your prompts and FBE report on or before the due date. 10. Send a thank you note for allowing you to work on their campus. |
