1318 COURSE PROJECT

ASSIGNMENT:  You are to plan a two hour parent training course.

Your target audience: Parents who have been ordered by the courts to take a parenting course.  They are either involved in a custody case or charged with some sort of child endangerment or neglect.  The course is to last about two hours

All the information is available in your textbook, but you are encouraged to use other resources.

Choose one of the topics listed below:

Health, Safety, and Nutrition: An Interdependent Relationship
Promoting Good Health and Safety
Conditions Affecting ChildrenŐs Health
Infectious Process and Effective Control
Communicable and Acute Illness:  Identification and Management
Safety Management:  Accidents and Injuries
Child Abuse and Neglect
Nutritional Guidelines
Planning and Serving Nutritious and Economical Meals
NOTE:  If you want to use another topic, you may do so with instructor permission.

You will need to develop:
Announcement materials e.g. flyers, brochures, posters
Handouts
Agenda for presentation
Workshop goals
List of materials and cost projection
Power Point lesson on the chosen topic
Assessment instrument:  This should be some sort of test or demonstration that the participants have mastered your objectives.
Certificate and/or wallet card to show course completion

Some examples on the Internet may be found at the following sites although there are many others available.  Search:  parenting workshops.  Your presentation does not have to be as long as some of the examples.  Some of the programs are more than one session.  But this should give you some ideas.

What you need to do:

PHASE I   Due February 2

1. Select a topic
2. Write a proposal for the topic and submit to instructor for approval.  The proposal should include:
a. Topic and title
b. Purpose
c. Goals
d. Budget
3. Submit topic for approval


PHASE II  Due March 2

Prepare program outline
Submit outline for instructor approval


PHASE III   Due April 6
Prepare and submit advertisement documents:  flyers, posters, newspaper articles etc.
Develop and submit samples of handouts and assessment instrument. 

PHASE IV   Due May 1
Develop a Power Point presentation with your topic
Submit Power Point.
