AN AMISH FAMILY

Hi there!! We, Glen and Pollyanna Hochstetler, are the parents of seven children, and have always enjoyed good, home-cooked food. We are an Amish family, and our small farm is nestled in the beautiful Mission Valley in western Montana. Due to our love of creating yummy dishes, we gave in to the encouragement of various friends to begin serving large banquet meals to the public. Several years ago we built a roomy Banquet Hall that we called THE DINNERBELL. This soon became a gathering place that bustled with activity as we served large, home-cooked meals. These were served family-style to several hundred people every Tuesday and Thursday evening. People came from all over the world, and we would have guests from as many as 7 different countries and 20 different states in one evening!! In one year's time, we had all the states of America present to dine with us except Delaware. This was quite and interesting project, and the popularity of the place grew very fast. We soon discovered that thousands of people from all over the world really do enjoy GOOD,WHOLESOME food made from scratch. A typical menu at THE DINNERBELL consisted of steaming mounds of mashed potatoes with a tasty gravy; freshly baked bread with butter, our famous peanut butter spread and jam; a tossed salad, etc. We always served a tempting dessert... delicious apple, cherry, blueberry, pumpkin, coconut, oatmeal, chocolate cream, lemon meringue, coconut creme, peanut butter cream, strawberry, or the traditional shoo-fly upon request. After the meal, our family would gather to offer a few harmonious hymns to the crowd, which was always a highlight as they emptied the last drops of steaming coffee, or the homegrown mint tea from their cups. After our banquet meals became of such demand, we began offering a hearty, country breakfast the first Saturday of each winter month. These meals were served buffet style, and included fluffy pancakes with hot syrup and fruit toppings; egg and sausage casseroles; ham, and grilled sausaged patties; a fresh fruit salad; sweet, fluffy doughnuts, raspberry and cinnamoon rolls, along with juices and hot coffee and tea. We ofter served over 300 people in 4 hours time at these breakfasts, ad the public really enjoyed these home-cooked meals in a unique Christian atmosphere. All the dishes mentioned above are found in THE DINNERBELL cookbook, printed out in the designated chapters. How did this recipe book become a reality?? Hundreds of people began asking us to share our delicious recipes, so eventually a cookbook took shape. THE DINNERBELL cookbook contains approx. 750 recipes- many or our family favorites! Besides these tasty dishes we served at the banquets, you will find recipes for "no-sugar" cooking, a whole chapter on quantity cooking, lots of recipes on home buthchering and preparing wild game. Also grilling techniques, a chapter on canning and freeqing, and also many tips and hints on lots of different subjects. You will find a rich storehouse of great recipes and valuable information to help you become a popular, "sought-after" chef---right in your own kitchen!! Again- all the above mentioned dishes can be found in THE DINNERNBELL cookbook. WE sincerely hope you will be inspired to prepare many of theses tasty recipes that will in return quickly become your favorite dishes! Indeed, if you enjoy cookboks, you will LOVE this "one -of-a-kind" treasure, and will find it a true delight!!! Thank you & God bless you! GLEN & POLLYANNA HOCHSTETLER
