When Vinny came to Leeds lots of eyebrows were raised. Many people said that we don't need or want this hooligan from Wimbledon. How wrong they were. Vinny soon became a hero at Leeds with his hard tackling and sense of humour. Vinny obviously was very grateful to Leeds to allow him to play for one of the greatest football clubs in history. Leeds were not a great club when Vinny arrived, but he was the catalyst. As soon as Vinny arrived a whole new aura surrounded the club on matchdays. We had Gordon Strachan with his amazing skills, we had David Batty a young hard tackling dynamo.These three together were a formidable midfield. I have watched Leeds United since the days of Billy Bremner,Jack Charlton And Co, I'v seen skillful players like Tony Curry, Duncan McKenzie, Eric Cantona,Harry Kewell,Eddie Gray,Johnny Giles but nobody has come close to the effect that Vinny Jones had on Leeds. He wad the ability to whip the crowd up into a frezied excitement of which we will probably never see the like again. This is when Leeds fans got the reputation a been the most intimidating fans in the country. When Leeds scored he would salute the crowd and they would salute him back. Saturday afternoon at Elland Road during that promotion season with Vinny Jones was without doubt more exciting for me than winning the Championship 2 years later. Thank You Vinny. By the way Vinny was never sent off for Leeds and only got a couple of bookings. Now Vinny is a movie star, I'm looking forward to his first Oscar.
