    Statistics-Eating Disorders

  • Experts now estimate that 1 of every 100 women between the ages of 12 and 25 suffers from anorexia, while 1 of every 7 women in the same age group develops bulimia.
  • 1 out of four women ages 12-32 have disordered eating.
  • Studies suggest that approximately 10% of all eating disorder suffers are male.
  • A ten year study by ANED showed that 86% of all victims of Eating Disorders reached onset of their illness prior to the age of 20.
  • Statistics from Anorexia Nervosa and Related Disorders, Inc., show that up to 20 percent of people with anorexia die prematurely.
  • Eating disorders have increased by 50 percent in the past decade, and approximately 7 million Americans suffer from an eating disorder, according to The Vegetarian Times, a magazine for people concerned with a healthy diet.

    Statistics-Sexual Assault

  • Somewhere in America, 1.3 women are raped every minute.
  • Approximately one in three girls is sexually abused before the age of 18, and one in four before the age of 14.
  • Approximately one in six boys is sexually abused before the age of 16.
  • About 1 million children are abused in the US each year.
  • A woman is sexually assaulted by forced sexual intercourse every 17 minutes in Canada.
  • In 1999, 23,872 sexual offenses were reported in Canada.
