Beta ChapterIn the Fall of 1995, six Latina women, Vivian Baez-Montero, Allison Koplik, Maritza Tavarez, Maribel Lara, Erika Suarez, and Wendy Vargas, came together, in search of an organization that would give them what they felt was lacking on their campus. They were searching for an organization that was dedicated to sisterhood, loyalty to each other and their cultures (both past and present), unity, vision, academic excellence and the upliftment of the Latino community at large.

After a search which lasted years for some, they finally came together, and realized that Alpha Rho Lambda Sorority, Incorporated-Alianza de Raíces Latinas, fulfilled all that they were searching for and more.

On May 4,1996, those six women became the founders of Beta Chapter of Alpha Rho Lambda Sorority, Incorporated at Tufts University.

Alpha Rho Lambda was founded on March 26, 1993 at Yale University by ten proud women of mixed Latina heritage. These women, Jacqueline Fermin, Leticia Martinez, Aimee Rivera, Esperanza Weng-Ingersoll, Evelyn Rojas, Onica Cole, Elisabeth Landry-Sarmina, Nancy Nava, Melissa Diaz, and Lydia Marquez, came together in the Fall of 1992 in search of a sisterhood that stood for service to the Latino community, academic excellence, empowerment of all women, and unity.

What they found were the strength and ideals within themselves to create a new sorority that stood for all they sought, and emphasized the respect they held for themselves and all women. One of the goals of this organization is to pave the way for a new era in Latino Greek letter organizations, in which all Latinos can unite under a common purpose.

Alpha Rho Lambda Sorority, Incorporated represents Latinas from many places around the world and many walks of life, giving us a broad spectrum of the issues and aspirations within Latino communities in the United States and abroad.
