Tomoe slowly opened her eyes and looked about the room confused and slightly disoriented. Slowly her eyes focused on a young servant girl closely sitting by her side “Where am I?”
The young girl smiled bowing her head “You are at the castle Tomoe san” she replied “I must tell Lord Tokugawa that you have awoken” The servant girl ran quickly from the room, pausing briefly at the door to whisper something to two guards waiting outside the room. She glanced back at Tomoe before hurrying off. Then the memory of the match against Naramo came into mind. As she lay on the futon bruised and beaten, Tomoe closed her eyes to shut out her humiliation and disappointment knowing she could have fought a lot better. If only she hadn’t been distracted. The thought of what had distracted her sent a sharp pain through her heart.
The servant girl found Lord Tokugawa busy overseeing preparations for that night’s end of the tournament celebrations. She bowed down “Lord Tokugawa, Tomoe has woken”
“Go back and stay with her. I will be there shortly” he spoke sternly.
“Yes my Lord” the servant girl bowed and quickly hurried back to Tomoe’s room.
When Lord Tokugawa entered into the room the young servant girl was mopping Tomoe’s brow. Tomoe lay there silently still staring blankly.
“Leave us,” he ordered the young girl. “Yes my Lord” She bowed and slipped quietly out of the room. Ieyasu took Tomoe’s hand in his “Tomoe how are you feeling?” Tomoe turned away to face the window recalling the match again in her mind “I failed you my Lord. How do you think I must feel? I have brought shame upon you” Ieyasu gently turned her head towards him “You have done no such thing. I will not hear you talk like this. You fought with pride and honor”
“But my Lord…”
“Enough of this!” he spoke firmly. Then lent over and sealed her lips with a kiss before she could say another word. Tomoe felt the electricity of the kiss race through her body.
“Tonight there is a banquet for the end of the tournament. If you are feeling fit enough I wish for you to attend,” he whispered, “I will be appointing a personal servant to take care of yours needs”
“As you wish my lord” Tomoe replied.
“Now I have preparations I must attend to. I shall be back as soon as I can” He softly kissed her before he departed from the room.
