Rotary Club of Masambong District 3780

Club No.  69936, Chartered June 29, 2005

3 Year Plan

Proposed e-Club

  • Rotary Year 2005-06

  • Rotary Year 2006-07

  • Rotary Year 2007-08

Background

While waiting for the approval of our Charter, I was mulling on the impact of the shift in the direction that the club will have to take, from the original plan of establishing an e-Club into being approved as a regular club and having to operate as such. It was then that the "focused community development" approach became clear in my mind as the alternative route to take. I finally received a text last June 28 from then District Governor George L. Howard, who was in Chicago at that time, advising me that Rtn. Tony Quinn of RI has confirmed the approval of our charter.

We can better touch people's lives by focusing valuable resources and initiatives at community service in one particular community and make a difference, rather than spreading them thin in many places. Furthermore, an effective mechanism of consultation with the target beneficiaries themselves, through the intercession of their barangay officials, community and sectoral leaders, will ensure that whatever forms of assistance we extend to them will truly be responsive and relevant to their needs.

I envisioned my stewardship as an entire year of dialogue and interaction with barangay and community leaders of Bgy. Masambong to determine their most immediate, mid-term and long-term needs, and to muster the club's resources in trying to respond to them. Through our Forum on Organizing a Community United in Service (F.O.C.U.S.) e-Group, let us let us exchange views and join our hands in establishing what one well-meaning civic organization can do if it decides to focus its efforts and resources in addressing the needs of one specific community. more >>

RC Masambong3780's Signature Projects

.

    >> The R. E. S. C. U. E. Program

    R. E. S. C. U. E.  stands for Rotary's Emergency Support to the Community's United Efforts. It has two parts. On one hand, Rotary will endeavor to identify and respond to the community's needs. On the other, the community should be encouraged to unite and organize themselves to develop the capability to address some of their needs as they may arise.

The R. .E. S. C. U. E. Program is designed having the coming rainy season in mind. Three of Bgy. Masambong's depressed communities are situated beside a creek.  They are situated so low that water rises to waist-level after a two-hour downpour of heavy rains. Affected residents are immediately evacuated to the tennis court, which is the only covered area that can accommodate them. The nearby school buildings cannot served the purpose because they too are flooded. One can then imagine their plight in the height of a strong typhoon. The club will endeavor to prepare pre-packed food, which will be ready for distribution in times of immediate needs.

After the rainy season will be over, The R. E. S. C. U. E. Program can shift gears and become  Rotary's Economic Support to the Community's United Efforts, focusing on livelihood training and development. Micro-lending assistance can be introduced whenever feasible. Cooperative development can also be explored and supported.

    .

    >>>> "Quick H. E. L. P. Check" survey

To serve as the basis for the club's immediate. mid-term and long-term interventions in the barangay, we will conduct a Quick H. E. L. P. Check survey, which will cover the areas of Health, Environmental management, Livelihood, and People's participation in addressing their own affairs.

The Quick H. E. L. P. Check survey, which need not be very extensive, will be conducted per household by clusters.

Survey results will help to properly identify, quantify and catalogue problem areas and concerns to serve as the basis in plotting  the corresponding programs to address and possibly resolve them.

    .

    >> Com-Dev  Partners of RC Masambong

The Com-Dev Partners of RC Masambong is one of our signature projects.

It is designed to  serve as a clearing house for those individuals who may actually qualify for Club membership, by having their convictions and dedication to the ideals of service tested in actual service projects involvement before bringing them over to full Rotary membership. This assures good quality members in the future.

It may also serve as an avenue to involve non-Rotarians who may have the interest and dedication to serve others, but are prevented by their economic realities from living up to the minimum financial requirements of Rotarian membership.

It is also designed to encourage cooperation between the Club and other non-Rotarian services organizations in pursuing possible joint projects. It is further an avenue to explore inter-Rotary club cooperation, to explore possible direct assistance, sister club and/or matching grant arrangements.

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL RED CROSS, QUEZON CITY CHAPTER. RC Masambong had made representations with the Quezon City Chapter of the Philippine National Red Cross, headed by Mrs. Annie Torres, who agreed to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the club as one of its institutional partners in providing assistance to Barangay Masambong, and in working together to transform Barangay Masambong  into a model community.

The RC Masambong-PNRCQC Partnership will also help address important health concerns, particularly those affecting women and children.

    Service Above Self

"We all embark on a journey that would stretch our humanity to the fullest. If we persevere to the end, we will discover ourselves to have become far more better persons than what we may think we already are, for truly they also profit most who serve best."
