Focused community development initiatives...
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our club website. RC Masambong 3780 is the 88th club in District 3780, Quezon City, Philippines, approved by the Rotary
International. It was chartered last June 29, 2005 with Club No. 69936. We take pride in being chartered during Rotary's Centennial
Year.
We open our Visitors pages
to both Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike. We welcome non-Rotarians to browse our web pages to learn more about Rotary. We encourage you to e-mail
us your comments and suggestions. Those who are interested to know the requirements of Rotary
Membership may visit our
Join Us! pages. Centennial District Gov. George L. Howard
originally gave us probationary status last April 5, 2005 as an Rotary eClubONE3780, and for the next two months we pioneered to establish the FIRST e-Club
in the Philippines. There are only 28 cyber clubs
operating worldwide under RI's cyber club project. Unfortunately RI suspended the acceptance of applications for new
cyber clubs
at the moment. I look forward to pursuing PDG George's dream of establishing the
FIRST e-Club in the country, if still given the chance.
While waiting for the approval of our Charter, I thought of the shift in the
direction that the we will have to take now that the club will be approved
as a regular club and not as an e-Club. It became clear to my mind then that the "focused community development"
approach is the alternative route to take.
We can better touch people's lives by focusing
valuable resources and initiatives at community service in one particular community and make a difference, rather than spreading them
thin in many places. Furthermore, an effective mechanism of consultation with the target beneficiaries themselves, through the intercession
of their barangay officials, community and sectoral leaders, will ensure that whatever assistance we extend to them will truly be responsive
and relevant to their needs.
I
envision my stewardship as an entire year of dialogue and interaction with barangay and community leaders to determine their most immediate,
mid-term and long-term needs, and to muster the club's resources in trying to respond to them. The Rotary Community Corp (RCC) will
be at the center of community organizing efforts.
Through
our Forum on Organizing a Community United in Service (F.O.C.U.S.) Newsletter, we will
chronicle what one well-meaning civic organization can do if it will focus its efforts
and resources in addressing the needs of one specific community.
