A variety of small kingfishers occur in central Cape York Peninsula, including the sacred kingfisher, Todiramphus sanctus (pictured); forest kingfisher, T. macleayii; red-backed kingfisher, T. pyrrhopygia; and the azure kingfisher, Alcedo azurea (pictured). All belong to the family Alcedinidae.

The name inh uy abur in Olkola and minha nga'a kopeya in Pakanh both mean "the bird that likes fish."
