Introduction

I've had the pleasure of teaching a year-long, community college-level course in the "History of the Americas". What is that, you ask? Quite simply, it's a look at the history of the Western Hemisphere. The first semester covers the period from pre-Encounter indigenous civilizations to the quest for independence by the English-American and Spanish-American colonists. The second half of the course picks up from the wars for independence and covers the period to the present day.
