MULTIMEDIA CLASSROOM

This doll collection sits above my desk, and adds to the multimedia of the class.  My wife made these dolls for me to help illustrate some of our literature.  From right to left, they are: Anne of Green Gables, Mary Lennox from The Secret Garden, Tuan from Miss Saigon, and Cosette from Les Miserables.  I'm hoping she will make me a Sara doll from The Summer of the Swans next year.  Click on the picture to visit Diane's Doll Collection.

In the foreground, are two characters who also play a part in my class: Uncle Scrooge, whose adventures are studied for plot structure; and the Geni from Aladdin, who plays a part in Persian Mythology.

Unlike many classes which emphasize STUDENT computer use, I am concerned with how the TEACHER uses the computer in class, with presentation. My computer is a multimedia blackboard, presenting sounds, notes, and images on 15 monitors around the room.

The kids still read, write, and take notes; but they do it in a unique way: in the encyclopedic environment of the internet. While they use their own computers for word processing and research, my job is the same as it's always been: to introduce my class to art, literature, film, and the world of academe.

When I began this page, I was just trying to learn how to write a page, but the value of the internet in my classroom is so strong, that the pages started to write themselves.  As I used the internet to collect multimedia materials to enhance presentations, I began to realize the easiest way to present it was to make my own pages with my own links, and teach directly from my own site.

This newly remodeled Classroom page is devoted to sharing the Literature, and a few other things I do in class.  To visit the various parts of class, please click on the selected boxes below:

TEACHING
LITERATURE
I have been most successful teaching literature on a structural basis, thus providing a format for note-taking, and a chance to really go into depth even with younger children.

Anne of Green Gables, the literary heart of my class!
Banner in the Sky, a terrific book to compare to Anne
Dobie Gillis, another great book with the theme of adolescent angst.
Just a perfect film for learning about values!
THE SUMMER OF THE SWANS
another beautiful parallel to Anne of Green Gables
There is always room for a Carl Barks' classic in my class!
IVANHOE, one of Sir Walter Scott's great adventures
The Notebook Test

The Multimedia Classroom is proud to be associated with Amazon.com.  Books and videos to accompany my lessons may be obtained by clicking on the logo.
