Extra Info
Zebra Danio are
a pretty easy to breed fish, in fact they were one of my first fish to
actually breed. They seem to prefer the top of the tank instead of the
bottom and usually only go to the bottom to maybe mate or lay their eggs.
Unlike what the book says the Zebra Danio will eat their eggs. As
soon as eggs are laid remove all of the adult fish. I am not sure if the
fry will eat each other if there is not enough food but so far each time
I have only ended up with one hatchling. They also would rather breed in
groups than in pairs. Since Zebra Danio prefer breeding (as in the AZ Library)
in shallow waters, I am considering making a long and shallow tank to see
if that makes them breed better or not. Either way I shall post my results
here as soon as I find out.
{UPDATE: I tried a tank
that was 384 pixels tall and 1600 pixels wide. After about a week they
bred again and this time I got there right when the eggs were laid and
stopped the parents from eating them. After a day I had 10 baby Zebra Danios!
What a jump, from 1 to 10!!!}
