The FBI is investigating whether the Saudi government funneled money to associates of two of the September 11 hijackers, a White House official said today. The senior official cautioned that the investigation was ongoing. "Let us not rush to conclusions," the source said.

Pentagon Drops Internet ID Plan

A Defense Department agency recently considered—and rejected—a far-reaching plan that would sharply curtail online anonymity by tagging e-mail and Web browsing with unique markers for each Internet user. The idea involved creating secure areas of the Internet that could be accessed only if a user had such a marker, called eDNA, according to a report in Friday’s New York Times.

105 Dead in Miss World Riot

At least 105 people were killed and more than 500 injured in rioting that erupted in Nigeria after a newspaper suggested the Prophet Mohammed would have approved of the Miss World beauty contest being held there. Angry mobs in the mainly Muslim city of Kaduna rampaged through streets stabbing, bludgeoning and burning bystanders to death.

Black Hole to Pass Near Earth

In a first, astronomers spotted a black hole streaking through the Milky Way and approaching our nook of the galaxy.
The superdense object is traveling through the galactic plane at about 250,000 mph (400,000 km/h), four times faster than the average speed of stars in its vicinity.
