PLEASE VOTE NOVEMBER 2
RE-ELECT NICHOLS for NRD

INDEPENDENT AND INFORMED LEADERSHIP

        Nebraska native - fourth generation
Confidence to initiate and lead change when needed
Dedicated to improving the quality of life through sound natural
           resources policies

        Responsible leadership for the NRD

I will work to promote the onsite outdoor classroom for public and private schools
to provide your children with a practical and accessible multi-discipline application of the
natural environment in an educational setting - and save you taxes on rising school budgets.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
     PROMOTE ONSITE OUTDOOR CLASSROOMS

I have a strong background of experience and leadership in education and youth activities that inspire environmental integrity, including a number of years I shared with my three Eagle Scout sons as BSA Scoutmaster and with high school students in the Nebraska Envirothon competition, which focuses on natural resources.
Rising insurance and liability costs for school field trips are taking more of your tax dollars while becoming less productive, limiting hands-on opportunities for students to study their living world.
THE CANDIDATE WITH PROVEN
NRD BOARD LEADERSHIP

WATER QUALITY

The NRD developed an outdoor classroom program and offered it to public and private school administrators. None however, have communicated their interest thus far.
Water quality has consistently improved during my term.  Wise conservation practices, household hazardous waste and pesticide container collections, public information, and sound floodplain management policies have contributed to an increase in water quality for a healthy environment .

      Incumbent NRD Director, Executive committee
I will continue to work to improve water quality through stormwater management programs and sound floodplain management.
Personnel, Legislative, and Public Affairs Committee Chair
I will work to increase wildlife habitat through
good conservation stewardship and strong floodplain management.
CONSERVATION - WILDLIFE HABITAT

I WILL CONTINUE TO WORK FOR
THE BEST AND MOST COST-EFFECTIVE METHODS
FOR FLOOD CONTROL

TO PROTECT YOUR LIFE AND PROPERTY
OUTDOOR RECREATION

USDA has announced a new federal program allocating $26M over the next five years to restore 18,200 acres of environmentally sensitive wetlands along the Missouri River, from Ponca to Rulo.
The mile-wide strip of restored wetlands envisioned will enhance wildlife habitat, provide added flood control, and improve water quality while preserving the natural beauty of the land for appreciation and recreation.
I am committed to support the mission and goals of the NRD to improve the quality of life, to conserve, manage, and enhance our natural resources in cooperation with multi-agency and public-private partnerships, and to be fiscally conservative with your tax dollars.
Through conservation easements for 10 or 30 years, certain activities such as farming and development are forbidden.
I will work for every opportunity for all residents to be able to enjoy our natural resources for outdoor recreation, from stand-alone projects like Elkhorn River canoe access to those jointly achieved on flood control and wetland restoration projects, to expanded opportunities on riverfront development.
