WEEK NINE:
With Doris and Daisy gone The Island didn’t seem the same. The New York alliance was falling apart and so were the plants and food on The Island. Without Daisy the vegetation was low. With no low fat meals and now no vegetables Bad Rose Larkin was wasting away to nothing. Without Doris The Island characters became more isolated from each other. No longer was there a group effort to put Doris to sleep by staging a nightly TV show inside her fake TV screen. Everyone seemed to keep to themselves more.
Doris’ best friend, Claudia, was distraught by the vote outcome but no one seemed more upset than Anshel. He seemed to act Guilty of something. Katie felt it her duty to find out why. She felt responsible because she orchestrated the Anshel’s trial against Doris and Daisy. She was feeling Guilty also. Katie wasn’t sure if she used Anshel as a way to alienate The Island against her.
Still itching to get off The Island so she could get back home into the political arena, all of Katie’s efforts failed. Her political statements and the trial against Doris and Daisy backfired and made her more liked on The Island.
“You seem pensive,” Katie noted. “No, I was just thinking,” Anshel answered. After much cajoling Anshel finally confided in Katie. Anshel unbuttoned his shirt and exposed his chest to Katie. “I showed you so you could testify in front of the tribunal council” Anshel informed her.
“Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear” Katie muttered as she nervously tapped her long fingernails on a tree. Katie was stunned and at a loss for words. She thought about what the other past castaways might say> Evil Fanny: “What the hell is happening here?” or “Nice set of beads”. She could hear Margaret say, “They ain’t coconuts”. She finally chose to use the words of her best friend Good Fanny Brice, “Howcha magoucha!” Katie had a dilemma. She certainly didn’t want to be a hero by informing the group that Anshel was a woman. On the other hand Anshel’s story was heart breaking so she may look like a villain for turning him in.
At tribal council Katie decided to expose Anshel’s secret. Anshel then admitted that Daisy and Doris found out he was a she before they left The Island. Doris caught Anshel undressing one night and stood there looking through two shells as if they were binoculars. “You think you have something I haven’t seen” Doris said playfully. “Two of the very few no doubt” Anshel said by mistake. This only made Doris more curious. “Oh yeah” she said. Anshel felt defiant and threw down his robe to reveal his secret. Just then Daisy walked in. “That’s the first time in my life I felt like the opposite sex”, she quipped. Then she began to babble saying, “What did he have that she don’t have? I mean he, I mean she… oh gawd. Why did I have to walk in? I mean what is so special about a Hebrew accent?”
“You see”, Anshel said. “Doris and Daisy both knew I was a man and never turned me. Even though it meant they would be kickd off The Island. That is why I feel so Guilty.” The group decided no matter what happens Anshel won’t be on The Island anymore.
After Anshel was voted out the group turned its site on Katie. She was scolded for revealing Anshel’s secret. In a close vote though it was Bad Rose who was the second voted off for the week. People were worried about her. She had become skin and bones after Daisy left. The group thought she needed medical attention. Now, off The Island, she can eat all the carrots she wants! Isn’t that tragic? |
