| Like many of the islands in the Carribean, St. Vincent had a volcanic birth. This means that much of the island is very hilly & has mountains over 4,000 ft. The west coast, or lee side of the island has placid water in beautiful lagoons, like Cumberland Cove to the left. This too, is the side of the island Pirates of the Carribean was shot. |

| All of the island has had a rich heritage of agriculture, first with sugar cane, but now with bananas, coconuts, pineapples, arrowroot & to a lesser extent, breadfruit & sweet potatoes. It would seem however, banana is king! They grow everywhere, and yet these are steep hillsides where the only way to produce & move crops is with human labor! If you saw these hillsides & the work involved, you would appreciate your next banana much more! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| To the left is one of the fertile agricultural areas with bananas, coconuts & other crops. Again, you don't see tractors... In order to keep the jungle from encroaching, machates are not only used, but carried by most folks all the time! We saw very few Weed-Eaters or tractor mounted brush-hogs. I also feel that with everyone carrying a machate on their belt, it makes these a more peaceful folk! Who's going to cause a problem when the guy next to you has a 2 ft. machate! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The east coast of the island is the rough side! The one that gets the big waves from the Atlantic. These are black volcanic sand beaches, not meant for swimming! They are however, great to look at & listen to simply for the pure power! The two sides of the island are so very different, quiet lagoons on one side, powerful surf on the other with mountains separating the two. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| You find a few farms on the east side that have cattle & always goats or sheep. As you can see, we picked a nasty day to do this trip simply because we knew we couldn't get any sun on the beach! The best part however is that you saw the coast in it's rawest state. Really rough!!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
