A - Some types of fireworks are in fact now legal in Minnesota.  These include sparklers, smoke bombs, roman candles, etc...  The fireworks that are illegal are considered to be anything that either takes flight as a projectile and/or explodes.  The illegal fireworks include bottle rockets, firegrackers (of any kind), jumpin jacks, rockets, parachutes, etc...

Q - I received a public nuisance letter in the mail.  What should I do to avoid getting a fine?

A - The first step is to look on the letter and find out what your public nuisance is.  It may be a vehicle that has expired tabs or has grass growing all around it or it may be a pile of wood in your yard that is lying on the ground instead of being up off the ground.  There are many things that constitute a public nuisance.  For more information on what a public nuisance is go to the public nuisance ordinance page by clicking on the link.

The second step is to correct the problem noted in the letter by the compliance date on the letter.  If you don't comply within the time period given, the report will be forwarded to the City Attorney and formal court preceedings will be initiated.

The third step is to keep within compliance of the public nuisance ordinance.  As stated above, to see what acts constitute a public nuisance you can check out the
