Australia : Senate to move for probe into Bali bombings
06/03/2003 09:35:37 | Asia Pacific Programs
Nearly five months after the Bali bombings, the Australian Senate will today move to
set up an inquiry into Australia's assessment of terrorist threats in South East Asia.
The inquiry will cover the period from September the 11th 2001, until the Kuta night
club strip attack of October the 12th last year. It comes as Australia's Federal Police
Commissioner Mick Keelty is meeting the head of Indonesia's Police, General Da'i
Bachtiar in Canberra today. The Australian Labor, Greens and Democrats parties, are
jointly sponsoring the Bali inquiry. This comes despite the Government's insistence
that intelligence agencies had no specific information that warned of the attack and
there's no need for any judicial or parliamentary investigation.
