Bombs found planted on Ambon mosque
Workers in the Indonesian city of Ambon have found two homemade bombs on the
roof of the main mosque, the scene of bloody Muslim-Christian clashes in the past.
Ambon military chief Colonel Yudhi Zanibarm says the two pipe bombs were removed
by the police anti-bomb squad and no one was hurt.
The military chief says nine people are being questioned about the discovery.
Since sectarian conflict broke out in Maluku in January 1999, more than 5,000 people
have been killed and hundreds of thousands made homeless.
The government brokered a peace pact in February 2002 but sporadic violence
continues.
