Muslim extremists threaten Westerners in Indonesia
Australians, Americans and Britons in Indonesia have been threatened by an
extremist Islamic group.
Australia's foreign minister Alexander Downer says Australians in Indonesia have
been warned to stay away from bars and public places where they could be targets of
so-called "sweeping operations" by militants.
Mr Downer told Parliament there have been several similar threats since the Bali
bombings in October.
"I am aware of reported threats against Americans, British nationals and Australians
by an extremist group translated into English which means the Islamic Defenders
Front," Mr Downer said.
"This kind of language is typical of the sort of rhetoric that comes from these
diabolically bad, extremist groups which seek to pervert and hijack Islam," he said.
