Australians warned of possible terror attack in Indonesian
Australians in Indonesia have been warned that a possible terror attack could be
planned for tomorrow in one of the country's largest cities.
As Indonesia correspondent Tim Palmer reports, Australia's Department of Foreign
Affairs has warned it has credible information of a possible attack in Surabaya in the
province of East Java.
"The warning from the Department of Foreign Affairs says there's information that
terrorist groups with a history of targetting westerners and western interests maybe
planning terrorist activity on or about the March 23 in Surabaya, Indonesia's second
largest city. The document warns Australians not to travel to Surabaya and if in the
city to exercise extreme caution, stay at home and if out to avoid public places
frequented by foreigners. The warning adds to the general country warning in place for
Indonesia since late last year. In the past week one radical group in Jakarta told the
ABC its supporters and other groups had discussed plans to victimise and possibly
kidnap Australians in response to the war in Iraq."
