FAQ's about New Zealand Fishing

Seasons & Licences

A license is required for trout fishing. A full season license is around NZ$75. Depending on region, these are available as daily, weekly, monthly, summer or winter versions. Fishing is all year round in most lakes, and major rivers.

Equipment

Your guide will supply all fishing equipment, and wet weather gear. Ensure you have warm clothing, and a change of clothes. Your guide will also provide pickup from hotel or airport and return, 4WD & boat transport, meals and accommodation as required.

Climate

Temperate, defined seasons. Snow on mountains in winter, hot summers. Winter lows of around -5C on frosty mornings. Summer daytime temperatures around 25-30C

Driving

Cars are driven on the LEFT side of the road. International road signs are used, all highways and major roads are of good quality, well signposted in English. International drivers licenses are accepted. Road rules are consistent with most countries - major exception is the left turn rule: When turning left, you must give way to traffic turning right.

Currency

Dollars & cents. Exchange rate is very favourable for US visitors, as US$1 buys NZ$2
