RELATIVITY THEORY One of the most DELIGHTFUL tales I've read all year, this one is set after the end of MANY HAPPY RETURNS and finds the warrior and bard taking "special" advantage of Hermes' helmet to explore...all sorts of things. In the vicinity to recover the helmet, Aphrodite can't help but tease her favorite bard a bit only the teasing leads into some unexpected territory when a secret from the past is revealed and a very amused Xena soon has to do some serious damage control. A terrific comedy with one of our favorite guest "stars", this is one of those tales that makes you truly laugh out loud and has you smirking for hours after. Markski has an outstanding touch with the characterizations and the humor giving us a Xena, a Gab and an Aphrodite you can just picture delivering the dialogues in here. AFTER THE VOLCANO Brace yourself for this haunting, beautiful little story because it is going to touch your heart and leave an unforgettable impression. Masterfully written, the story is set amidst the aftermath of a deadly volcano explosion and the resulting tidal wave. She envisions them with a kind of connection that is spiritual and magical and always poignant. Mary excels at showing the deep bond between Xena and Gabrielle by depicting it through the eyes of others. For the bard it's the beginning of a nightmare as every step seems to zap her strength further, widening both the physical and emotional distance between herself and her partner. For Xena it will be among her greatest challenges as she finds herself increasingly drawn to the power of that forest - wanting to become a part of it no matter the cost and dreading the implications of that compulsion. Mary presents us here with a well-crafted, eerie tale, rich in symbolism that also happens to be a great character study. Mary does a wonderful job in fleshing out the characters of Xena and Gabrielle, providing insight into their minds and establishing a relationship between them that is very special. A bit of a hurt/comfort story, this tale will touch you, shock you and ultimately reaffirm the power of love and friendship. This is high-caliber writing! Maureen's XWP stories are structured around the unbreakable bond between warrior and bard, lending them a heartwarming quality that makes for an excellent read. This new tale finds the Warrior Princess stuck in a cave while an injury heals with Gabrielle trying to sooth her restlessness. Faced with this monumental challenge, the bard resorts to her best weapon - the gift of conversation, never suspecting the rewards she will reap from this effort. What I found particularly endearing was the relationship between Xena and Lyceus. The tv show only scratched the surface of what these two meant to each other, while Mil Toro takes their camaraderie one step further. The main theme centers on the love Xena has for Gabrielle and how that remains unchanged despite the circumstances. The author demonstrates that no matter what Xena and Gabrielle are meant to be together. This is a short steamy story where love blossoms slowly due to the situation. If you're into stories that aren't centered on "doing the nasty" and actually have a plot check this story out.
