The Reikai Deity of Death
~Botan-chan!~
Okay, I've been using Botan's name like, ever since I got addicted to anime. And I think I've gone overboard too *sweatdrops* and given the honorable title, "Botan no Miko", I want to give my own tribute to the REAL Reikai ferry girl, Botan, of Yoshihiro Togashi's Yu Yu Hakusho.
Hey, hey, this little portion of my website is still under construction, gomen nasai! Name: Botan (Name is written in Hiragana, and it means "peony". ぼたん)
Age: Botan is said to be living for centuries, like Koenma-sama.
Human Age: When she appears as a student at Yusuke's school, she's assumed to be 14 years old.
Birthday: Unknown
Hair Color: Sky Blue
Eye Color: Pink, but becomes purple at times. Botan-chan has pretty eyes, ne? ^_^
Occupation: Reikai ferry girl
Friends: The Yusuke-tachi (Urameshi team, including the rest of the girls and Koenma-sama), George the Oni and the other ferry girls ^^
Best Friend: Keiko-chan (in my opinion ^_^)
Seiyuu: Sanae Miyuki
Botan is the cute, bubbly, pink kimono-wearing gal from Yu Yu Hakusho. She is probably one of the prettiest anime girls ever created. Among the girls of Yu Yu Hakusho, Botan-chan is my favorite. And hey she looks pretty weird, ne? Sky blue hair and pink-purple eyes, but nevertheless, these are the parts of her charm.The names of the Reikai ferry girls are derived from names of flowers, so take the names Botan, Hinageshi and Ayame as examples. Botan's name means "peony", a flower growing in Japan, China, US, and some other parts of the world. And no, her name doesn't mean death though she is sometimes called the "goddess of death" too. Poor kawaii and cheerful Botan, strange as it may seem, is the dreaded 'angel of death', the one who picks up the souls of the dead people and accompany them to their trip to Reikai, the spirit world, where souls are judged. Yeah, weird job for a bubbly girl, right? But any YYH fan would understand why she has this kind of job--the souls ferry girls pick up needs guide and consolation, since, for some people, death is kind of pretty hard to accept. Botan is cheerful, and she has the ability of consoling those souls which are separated from their bodies forever through her cheerfulness.
There's this issue about Botan being a goddess, as what we YYH fans talked about for some time. We are not entirely sure that she is really a goddess, but, it would be nice if she really is. Botan's a ferry girl of Reikai, and well, there are lots more Reikai ferry girls, (i.e. Hinageshi, Ayame) but Botan is the most featured ferry girl at Yu Yu Hakusho. Hinageshi appeared at the movie, while Ayame appeared at some parts of the Anime and the Manga. The other ferry girls aren't shown at all, so it is assumed that there are more of them. So, if there are lots of ferry girls, then there are lots more Reikai goddesses of death. And, I believe that Botan is called the goddess of death because she symbolizes death. But, her title as the goddess of death isn't exactly official.
Botan's friendship with the Reikai tantei and the Yusuke-tachi is pretty fair.
She is the most bubbly girl of the group, and you would rarely see her down in the dumps. She is friends with Yusuke, since she acts as his sort of guide/secretary. Although sometimes Yusuke makes fun of her, she regards him as her friend. Kuwabara treats her with respect, though he can't help but tease her too. Let's not forget Kuwa-chan is a gentleman. Kurama is friendly towards her, and I am in favor of her being paired up with him :) Now Hiei's a different case. Botan is a bit afraid (I observed, from the Anime, the Manga, and the fanfics I've read) of Hiei, because he's not that sociable and he's distant from the rest of the group. Hiei, at times, drops nasty comments towards her because apparently, bubbly and cheerful girls aren't his type (hey, I would love to see Hiei involved with a girl ^^), but I do believe they'd get along given the chance that Hiei would get more used to her and Botan would be less afraid of him. And hey, they'd make a cute couple! Sometimes I do believe that opposites attract.
With the rest of the girls, Botan interacts with them naturally and in a friendly way. She comforts them whenever they're worried about the boys (especially Keiko-chan) every time there's trouble, a new mission or something of the sort. In my opinion, her best friend is Keiko-chan, since they're always seen together, and they're really close. And hey, who wouldn't agree? Keiko leans on Botan-chan every time there's trouble or she's worried about Yusuke, and Botan protects her in return. Keiko talks sense to her, and she listens, doesn't she? Shizuru, in the other hand, is like a big sister to Botan. Meanwhile, Botan avoids talking harshly towards Yukina-chan and treats her with the outmost respect. Hey, everyone is kind to Yukina-chan, ne?
Botan-chan is not paired up officially with any character from YYH. At least, it's still unknown. In anime fandom, she is paired up with Koenma-sama, and lots of people believe that they are meant to be for each other--including myself, and lots of people also think that they are a canon couple, but no, they are not. Other people also favor Kurama (I want him to be Botan's partner too ^_^), Yusuke, Hiei, Kuwabara and other guys from YYH to be Botan's partner. But, Botan is probably paired off with Koenma-sama--hey, there's nothing bad with the match, ne? And they sang a duet together ^_^ well, maybe, Yoshihiro Togashi-sama would have something to say about this matter.
