Healing Hand
It so happened that King Nuada's Hand had been severed in battle and no matter how much his people loved him he was scarred and could no longer take claim to the thrown. Having heard of this Airmid and her brother Miach made their way to King Nuda's castle before they could arrive there though news came that Diancecht had created a Silver hand for the King. Diancecht, of course being their father. He crafted the silver hand specially made for the King and with great skill attached it so that it could move as well as the hand with which the Great King was born. This did not break the stead fast assurances of Miach who knew that he could return to the Nuada his hand of flesh.
As the two Gods drew nearer the Gates of King Nuada's Castle another victim of battle draws into sight the Porter sits a cat winding between his legs in hopes of affection. Porter stares up from his one eye like his beloved King he too has suffered a loss in battle and with the sound of the approaching travellers he calls out.
"Who approaches the Gates of King Nuada's Castle?"
"We are skilled healers, come to aide the King in his time of need"
Replied Airmid her voice like the delicate song of a bird.
"If you be so skilled then why not you give me a new eye? Am I not too in my own time of need?"
Replies the porter as Airmid notices the Cat underneath the Porter's Chair. Miach and his sister agree that this would be a fair deal and the Porter would surely spread news of their abilities to the King. With great speed and diligence Airmid and Miach remove an eye from the socket of the Cat and transplant it into the empty socket of the Porter. The Porter is very pleased with his new eye although it is not altogether co-operative as it retains its cat like instincts at night remaining open in search of mice and in the day closed in need or rest. Despite the minor trouble the Porter sends word to King Nuada of the Healers deeds.
So it came to be that Airmid and her brother Miach were brought before King Nuada, Miach inspected the place where the well crafted hand made for Nuada by Diancecht met the Kings flesh. With a quiet pause Miach turns to Airmid and then bids to know what has become of the King's original hand. A voice in the room answers and Miach runs to the spot where the hand had been buried. Digging up the earth covering the now rotting flesh and bones Miach carefully places the remains on the piece of cloth gently laid down for him by Airmid. Brining the hand to King Nuada he removes his father's silver hand and staring at the stump remaining holds the hand next to it and begins to intone several incantations. The Hand renews itself to its living form and it takes three days for Miach to complete his work sewing skin to skin, muscle to muscle, flesh to flesh, nerve to nerve.
