PALERMO
Sicily’s capital.  The mixture of architecture here makes it one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, so I suggest a visit…but a very short one!  The lack of atmosphere can be eery, where you can walk alone for miles on the street….
Monreale..from where the word Montreal comes from!  Beautiful Byzantine church….I attended Mass there on a Sunday morning.
Piazza della Vittoria…makes you think you’re not in Europe, eh?
The main cathedral…also very elegant, dates from the 12th century.  It's very rare you'll find a church with such architectural detail.
Corner of Maqueda and Vittorio Emmanuele, the two main streets of Palermo, or Piazza Vigilena
Norman Castle…like any other…however, there are the Capuchin Catacombs nearby.  Not only did these monks invent the cappuccino, they knew how to preserve the dead as well.  Closed on Sundays, though, so no picture :(
