Join me and my dog Griffin on the road and in "The Chief," our late-70's model motorhome.  I hope you enjoy this lighthearted and mildly cynical account of our three-season journey from Washington, DC to the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, the Pacific coast and the southwest.

When my employer introduced a sabbatical program, I signed up right away.  I leased out my house and turned to eBay where I found the RV that would be my home for seven months.  Together with my dog Griffin, I traveled thirty thousand miles through the United States and Canada, in part to find adventure and in part to provide context to life in the Washington DC area.

Beyond the Dogpark will present anecdotes about situations and people we encountered, as well as practical descriptions of places we visited.  The book will describe Griffin's run-in with a moose in Anchorage, our attempt to camp on the streets of Los Angeles and a marathon I ran in the Colorado Rockies.  It will tell of the bar-side discussion I had in the Yukon with a pig farmer who spoke not only of his trade but also of politcal conspiracies -- and of the two days of conversation I shared with a hitchhiker who was searching for a home and for herself.  The book will provide layman's descriptions of glaciers and of geological features of the Colorado Plateau, including Zion and the Grand Canyon.
