In the beginning was Hristo Dimitrov's idea to create a grand folklore performance, displaying in seven music and dance acts the seven ethnographic regions in Bulgaria. They have to show the typical music, songs, dances and mentality of the Bulgarians in the Rhodopi Mountain, Pirin Macedonia, Shopluka, North Bulgaria, Dobrudzha, Strandzha and Thrace.

The idea met with the approval of Hristo's sister, Elena, and British citizen Ian Charles Anderson (consequently Elena..s spouse). They funded the establishment of the project. The premiere was on April 3, 2003 at the Prime Stage of the National Palace of Culture (NDK). The success was outstanding. The script, choreography, and directing were done by Hristo Dimitrov; the music was composed by Prof. Milcho Vassilev. The team included Prof. Nikolay Tzvetkov, Ivan Kirishev and Zachary Rashev. The soloist was Albena Veskova, then the soloist of the choir "The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices".

In a very short time the show became the greatest cultural event in the last ten years. It has been run over 500 times in almost every place in Bulgaria, as well as Macedonia, Israel, Japan, Austria, Romania, Greece, France and other countries worldwide.

The success of the national folklore ensemble Bulgare and their effects on the spectators was so profound that the national campaign called the Second Bulgarian Revival Today was inspired. Seven years later, ensemble Bulgare has created three shows, each of them fundamentally different from the others. "This is Bulgaria" reveals the beauty of the Bulgarian dances, "Bulgaria through the Centuries" (history dance spectacle) reveals the entire history of the oldest European State, and "Albena" (music dance show) is an apotheosis of the Bulgarian woman and folk song. The performances feature fifty professional dancers and thirty solo performers - actors, stuntmen, ballet dancers, singers, musicians, etc. The ensemble Bulgare has its own audio and lighting equipment. It publishes a monthly magazine Bulgare. A Foundation with the same name has been established; an audio recording studio with the composer Ivan Kirishev was set up.

Unique choreography that goes beyond human imagination, inimitable talents and virtuosos, incredibly beautiful costumes and ornaments, and an avalanche of musical rhythms -- full of the culture, history and the soul of Bulgaria and the Balkans.

It reveals the richness and beauty of the music, songs and dances of Bulgaria's seven ethnographic areas: The Rodophi Mountains, Pirin Macedonia, Shopluka, Northern Bulgaria, Dobrudzha, Strandzha and the Thrace.

The show will also feature singer Albena Veskova, former soloist of the Le Mystere des voix Bulgares (the renowned Mystery of Bulgarian Voices).
