The DP has Value as a Deterrent!!!
"The death penalty is a warning,
just like a light house throwings its beams out tot sea. We hear about
shipwrecks, but we do not hear about the ships that the lighthouses guides
safely on their way. We do not have proof of the number of ships
it saves but we do not tear the lighthouse down."

There have been several cases
and studies done that prove potential murderers did not murder due to the
fear for the death penalty, this proves that many innocent lives were saved
and that the death penalty is a good deterrent.

The death penalty certainly deters
the murderer who is executed. The death penalty helps prevent future crimes
because vicious murderers are killed to stop them from killing again either
in prison or in society.
-
Most potential murderers will
reconsider killing anyone once they have realized that they could be executed.
Capital punishment deters more than any other punishment, because most
people fear death more than anything else.

"If we execute murderers
and there is in fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a bunch of murderers.
If we fail to execute murderers, and doing so would in fact have deterred
other murders, we have allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent victims.
I would much rather risk the former. This, to me, is not a tough call."

science)
