Since our society has the highest interest in preventing murder, it should use the strongest punishment available to deter murders.  Even if the death penalty fails to deter other murders from happening at least one murderer will not be able to kill again.  Some people oppose the death penalty, but would they want revenge if one of their family members was murdered?  And the death penalty is society's best legal revenge policy. Capital Punishment stops the cycle of crime by not only by scaring the criminals, but by also getting rid of the ones who are not scared of the consequences.
