REISEBERICHTE über NEW YORK (USA)
Januar 2004
Mit der Continental Airlines fliege ist zusammen mit meinem Bruder Thomas direkt nach New York. Der Shuttlebustransfer klappt nach einigem warten und führt uns zum Manhattan Broadway Hotel zwischen dem Empire State Building und dem Times Square gelegen. Das Hotel ist einfach, relativ sauber mit kleinen Zimmern inkl. Badraum, Dusche, Fernseher und mit freundlichem und hilfsbereitem Personal. Wir schlendern etwas die Fifth Avenue herunter, bewundern die Läden, schauen hinauf zu den vielen Hochhäusern und gehen danach einen Happen essen.
Frühmorgens machen wir uns auf zum Empire State Building; es ist unglaubliche minus 10 - 12 Grad. Vom Dach aus hat man wirklich einen wunderbaren Ausblick auf die Stadt und die Fernsicht bei gutem Wetter ist fast endlos. Die vielen Hochhäuser sind teils wirklich architektonische Meisterwerke. Jetzt unternehmen wir eine Wanderung, ganz Manhattan hinunter, durch Soho, Little Italy und besichtigen Ground Zero wo früher einmal das World Trade Center stand. Mit der Fähre, die gratis ist, fahren wir nach Staten Island und mit der übernächsten wieder zurück. So hat man einen wunderbaren Ausblick auf Manhattan und fährt direkt an der Freiheitsstatue vorbei. Den Abend verbringen wir im Klub B.B. King wo Live Musik gespielt wird und gehen etwas später noch zu Charlies Bar.
Nochmals ein sehr kalter Tag, also genau richtig um ein Museum zu besuchen. Das Metropolitan Museum of Arts ist wirklich einen Besuch wert. In den riesigen Hallen (4 Blocks lang) sind Kunstgegenstände wie Bilder, Skulpturen und Sachen des täglichen Bedarfs aus aller Welt ausgestellt und erklärt. Ein kleiner Spaziergang durch den Central Park wo die Seen zurzeit zugefroren sind. Mit der Metro fahren wir wieder Richtung Downtown Manhattan und schauen uns in Chinatown um. Das Essen schmeckt mir sehr gut in diesem Teil, der eigentlich als Stadt in der Stadt betrachtet werden kann. Den Sonnenuntergang betrachten wir von der eindrücklichen Brooklyn Bridge aus. Abends gehen wir zum Basketballspiel der New York Knicks gegen die Miami Heats. Die Stimmung ist okay, das Stadion der Madison Square Garden riesig und es wird viel Show geboten, trotzdem wird mich diese Sportart wohl nie wirklich begeistern könne.
Noch bleibt etwas Zeit, die ich damit verbringe mir Brooklyn anzusehen. Hier geht das Leben gemütlicher voran und die Gebäude haben meist nur 3-4 Stockwerke. Zum Schluss gehe ich noch einkaufen nebst den teuren, exklusiven Boutiquen gibt es viele kleinere Läden und natürlich Kaufhäuser die oft sogar Sonntags geöffnet sind.

MEINUNG / ERFAHRUNGEN / ZUSAMMENFASSUNG | |
| New York hat mir gut gefallen. Fast alles ist hoch oder sehr hoch; somit ist ein Blick vom Empire State Building nützlich um sich zu orientieren und das Panorama zu geniessen. Die moderne Architektur der Hochhäuser, die Innenausstattung und das schlendern durch die Strassen sind wirklich beeindruckend. Nicht auslassen sollte man eine Fährüberfahrt nach Staten Island und das überqueren der Brooklyn Bridge zu Fuss. Verschieden Stadtteile (Soho, Chinatown, Wallstreet usw.) haben alle ihre eigene Persönlichkeit und Bewohner. Abends gibt es diverse Möglichkeiten wie Musicalbesuch, an eine Sportveranstaltung gehen oder in einen der Clubs mit Live Musik. | |

Innenarchitektur der Gran Central Station oder das Metropolitan Museum of Arts. | Im Januar kann es wirklich unglaublich kalt sein. Winterkleider sollte man auf gar keinen Fall vergessen zu dieser Jahreszeit. |

| Die vielen verschieden Stadtteile und die verschiedenen Zuwanderer aus allen möglichen Teilen der Welt machen New York jedenfalls für mich farbiger und interessanter. | |

With continental airlines is fly together with my brother Thomas direct to New York. The transfer works well and does bring us to the Manhattan Broadway hotel, which lies between the Empire State Building and the Times Square. The hotel is simple, relatively clean with small rooms with bath, shower, television and friendly staff. We stroll the famous Fifth Avenue down, admire the numerous shops, view up to the many skyscrapers and having dinner.
Early in the morning we are on to the Empire State Building; it is incredible minus 10 - 12 degree and windy as well. From the roof outside we enjoy a wonderful look over the city and the visibility on this sunny day is great. The many skyscrapers are without a doubt mostly architectural master works. We stroll down almost entirely Manhattan, through Soho, Little Italy and visit Ground Zero where earlier once the World Trade Centre stud. With the ferry (free), we cross to Staten Iceland and back with the next again. From the ferry it’s a great look back on Manhattan and it passes the statue of liberty as well. We spend that evening in the club of B. B. King where live music is played and go later on to Charlie’s bar.
It’s once again a very cold day for sightseeing, so we decide to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. It’s well worth to visit that museum with the gigantic halls (4 blocks long), thousands of art objects and pictures and a lot of sculptures and things of the daily requirement. Next to the museum is the Central park where we make a short stroll along the frozen lake. With the Metro, down to Downtown Manhattan and short walk brings us to Chinatown. This part of New York seems to be like a city in the city and the food is tasty. We observe the sunset from the impressive Brooklyn Bridge. That evening we visit the basketball game of the New York Knicks against the Miami Heats. The atmosphere is okay, the stadium Madison Square is gigantic complex and there is always a show in the breaks from the game, nevertheless basketball will never be my favourite game.
There is some time left to have a look at Brooklyn. Here the life seems less hectic and the buildings are smaller. I spend a couple of hours with shopping, at some stores and shops, which are even open on Sunday.

OPINION / EXPERIENCES / SUMMARY | |
| I enjoyed my visit in New York. Almost everything is high or very high; so a view down from the Empire State Building is good for orientation and the panorama is great. The modern architecture of the skyscrapers, the interior equipment and a stroll through the streets are really impressing. Don’t leave out the ferry crossing to Staten Island and cross the Brooklyn Bridge on foot. Different quarters (Soho, Chinatown, rampart street etc.) have all it characteristic personality and inhabitants. For evenings there are various possibilities from visiting a musical, a sporting event to visit a clubs with live music. | |
