Toward a Nude Society


The first instinct of most readers was undoubtedly a shortcut mental evaluation of the title as a low probability event. This led immediately in most cases to categorizing the writer and the work. The type of writer I am is an advocate for low probability events; specifically, in this I am advocating social nudism. Most people do not feel reading this will be worth their while, for they do not expect their society will adopt nudism, nor perhaps even tolerate it.

Nude World Order

In that majority of the potential readership of this writing does in fact witness nakedness common in daily life, they will be acutely aware that a drastic change has occurred in the basis of human society. Every naked stranger who greets them will be a living reminder of the Revolution in human affairs. Yet since they had earlier made the choice that it was not worth their precious Internet time to pause, and read what this nut had to say about living naked, they won't feel part of this change. The other way around, those of you who read this will be able to identify with this aspect of the transmutation in human life, and had advance knowledge it would happen. You would get the chance for gleeful gloating which comes only with a bet well laid.

Lots of people are nudist advocates, who are pridefully aware of being part of a movement which has opened clothing optional reservations, nude beaches, nudist camps and so forth. They may secretly know of secret places where clothing is optional in a group of houses, an apartment building, or even a multifamily ranch. They may politically advocate the rights of nudists, and think in terms of progress or loss as the political fortunes of nudism shift around. This point of view is not exactly what this writer has in mind. Of course, it is not exactly different, but it is entirely possible for persons to politically advocate nudism on the contemporary scene, yet reluctant to support the Revolution in human affairs as it makes this cherished goal a reality.

Those of you who are familiar with other works of this writer will recognize a similarity with other aspects of the revolutionary program depicted therein. Am I for marijuana legalization? Well, yes and no: I favor common marijuana use, but not government nor law, so the question ranges askew from my actual goals and interests. Marijuana use is a religious liturgy for me, as a worshipper of the marijuana goddess Scythia. I am pleased when people get more liberty, and displeased when they get less liberty, so I mourn and celebrate in the same phases of public climate as those who advocate political activity to legalize marijuana. But the question does not touch the basis of how I think things need to be arranged. This is the same discomfort the Anarchist feels among a crowd of Socialists. Don't you think this and that, should be thus and so? the Socialists ask. Well, yeah, but not like that, not the way you're thinking of it. I'm on your side, basically, but not as much as you're on my side and you don't even know it.

Those unfamiliar with my other works can just let it slide, and proceed to think naked. The importance of nudity in the revolutionary world is as the prime indicator that the world has changed. It is naked proof that the world which has developed is discontinuous from the previous course laid out for society. Many interconnected changes have transpired, each of which separately could be evaluated as a low-probability event, if considered in isolation. People go naked? Yeah, right. Pot smokers worshipping openly? Yeah, right.

People who have taken the time and trouble to dig deepest into hippie theory, for which I may be the most accessible advocate at this time, will understand that the Revolution is inevitable in the sense that it is prerequisite to the survival of terrestrial life. We don't say hurry up, but clocks tick. We are your seers, and we can see that there is no selection available to our species but Revolution or death. There ain't no third choice, just how plain do you want us to make it?

That is why we can go with the presumption that humanity will embrace the Revolution. In any contrafactual case, there will not be anybody around to read our words. For a while, survivors may chuckle at our quaint notions, but only because they are ignorant of their fate. So yes, I can write as if I know the future, to the extent I know what must happen if there is to be a future. Prophesy is drastically simplified right now. I think people will go naked in public soon. I can say this as a total empiricist, or I can decorate it up with spiritual trimmings to make it seem esthetically prettier. Either way, common nudity will be a facet of your society, so how do you think you will feel about that?

Though I phrased it as a projection, readers will feel more comfortable considering it as a subjunctive. What will be the effect on your your personality if people commonly appear in public nude? Put that way, people will be able to consider the issue. There is great emotional loading in this question, so a commonly encountered reflex will be to restate the question inappropriately. Many will personalize, individualize, fragment the question, to make it a quite different question. Will I decide to go naked? I should say not!

That was not the question. That was your incorrect perception of the question generated by your defensive shield socially conditioned into you. You failed to notice that you were changing the nature of the question and subverting its true meaning. The question was in fact a subjunctive one based on social adoption of nudity as the norm. The version of it you perceived was a transform of the original, with its subjunctive basis removed. You made it a direct question concerning your behavior, within the implicit background of the current version of society. You saw the wrong thing, and answered the wrong question, and you couldn't help it because you didn't know it. You could give the answer immediately and automatically, as a matter of course, and you were quite wrong.

This is a good example of hippie analysis. We mean to be real, and get at the truth. The reason others don't understand things like the hippies do, is that others have not trained their minds well enough. Hippies know more about the world than others, because our minds are more efficient in analysis. We think better. We taught ourselves how to do it, and we told everyone how they could go about training and organizing their own minds to achieve this effectiveness. That information is in the public domain for anyone who cares to use it. That doesn't make us better, but we do think better. If you want to think better, you are welcome to do it the way we did, with acid trips, which works very well and has no lasting side effects. Or you can try to find your own way, but we can tell you that your probability of success is very low, within the time available. That's where it's at.

So, were you living in a society which commonly accepts nudity, how would that make you feel? The probability is that you yourself would be appearing naked in public without qualm, though not without memory of the changeover. For example, you could remember your turmoil on reading these words, and largely your doubts on this very projection, as prophesy. You'll be going out naked a lot, when it's warm. How do you think you'll feel about everybody doing that, including yourself?

Now we are getting closer to answering the original question. Note how much energy must be expended in clarifying the semantics and background, so you don't see and answer the wrong question. This would occur in every case in which you are conditioned against neutral communication. We are looking deeply into the question of nudity, simply because it is a comparative lightweight in its amount of emotional loading. You do not automatically drag in the crime and punishment aggregate when you just think about nakedness. Your conditioning is therefore weak in this area, so it is least work to bring you to think objectively on this topic. Anything more central to the nature of the Revolution, you automatically think of as criminal, because of your social conditioning. Oh, me too, but I can deal with it and you can't, because I'm aware of it and you're not. You haven't tripped enough.

So we are attempting to lift the emotional loading from the question of nudity, to enable the possibility of neutral communication to the extent of one question and one answer. The question refers to how you will feel, but it is perfectly possible to communicate emotional content over a neutral channel. Assume you and others will go naked frequently. To what extent will your mood be conditioned by your memory of the time bare skin was forbidden? When you glimpse someone's genitals in public and then wink at that person, or just raise your eyebrow, to what extent are you celebrating victory over the historic tradition of repression? Your mild flirtation of the eye may be no more than is socially expected by the conventions of nude behavior. Neither the subject of your attention nor anyone else will take it very seriously. But you allowed yourself this tiny delight just because it felt good at the time, a social pleasantry. You couldn't do that back during the times when everybody had to wear clothes all the time. Does this little liberty make you happy?

So, we have explored one question, one of the easiest questions that will have any real meaning in the future. We had to chip away a lot of junk you carried with you before you could even see what the question was. If we had picked a harder issue, like dope or sex, you would still be fighting comprehension, because you are still under the spell of televised monotheist statist capitalism. You don't realize how much force is behind your hypnosis, but come on back and we'll start working on it. Meanwhile, you are assigned to meditate on this question: How would you feel about going naked, if everybody was going naked?
