Chapter Six

A Different Twist

“Marshall, get your lazy ass out of that bed.  We’re going to be late!”  AJ yelled for the fifth time already that morning.

Marshall moaned and turned in bed so his back was facing AJ.

AJ scowled and marched into the bathroom.  If Marshall was going to be stubborn, then two could play at that game.  Filling a bucket with freezing cold water, he walked back into the bedroom and over to his sleeping boyfriend.  “Marshall, get the fuck out of this bed!”  He tried again, but when he didn’t get a response he picked the bucket up off the ground.  “Alright ya asked for it.”  He stated as he dumped the freezing cold liquid onto Marshall’s sleeping body.

“What the fuck!”  Yelled Marshall jumping out of bed.

“We have to be at the doctors in an hour.  You wouldn’t wake up so I had to resort to more drastic measures.”  AJ said as he went around the room picking clothes out for Marshall.

“You didn’t have to fucking poor freezing ass water on me.”  Exclaimed Marshall shaking his hair like a dog.  “How can you be so chipper anyways?  You kept me up until almost 3am with your fucking hormones.”

AJ had to laugh at the look on his boyfriends face.  “I didn’t hear you complaining last night.  If I remember correctly it was the exact opposite.  ‘OH FUCK ALEX, YOU’RE SO TIGHT BABY!’  Said AJ mimicking Marshall from the night before.  “Now come on and get dressed. I don’t wana be late.”  He said throwing the clothes onto the bed.

Marshall mumbled something as he watched AJ walk out of the room.  The jump in his step was unmistakable.  Seeing AJ so happy was enough to get Marshall out of bed.

Amazingly only twenty minutes later Marshall was behind the wheel of his Chevy Trailblazer. AJ was sitting beside him talking a mile a minute, about what Marshall wasn’t exactly sure.  He had lost him a few blocks back when he was talking about having to make sure they got a solid cover for the pool before the baby was born.  What a baby would be doing around the pool he wasn’t sure, but whatever.

“What do you think Marsh?”  Asked AJ with a wide smile on his face.

Marshall turned to look at AJ.  ‘Oh fuck he asked me a question and I don’t even know what we were talking about.  Good going Mathers.’  He thought to himself.  “What did you ask baby?”

AJ looked at Marshall in confusion.  “You haven’t been listening have you.”

“I’m sorry, I was trying to make sure I didn’t get us lost.”  Said Marshall, which wasn’t exactly a lie.

“I just asked what you thought about turning the bedroom next to Hailie’s into the nursery.  I mean I guess the one next to ours would be more practical.  But the other one is bigger.”

Marshall couldn’t help but laugh.  “Aje, for one I don’t mind either way, but we have months before we have to worry about this stuff.  You can’t be more then 2 months pregnant right?”

“I know that Marshall, but I’m just trying to make sure we’re prepared.  But forget it.”  Said AJ looking back out the window.

“Alex, don’t be mad at me.  I’m just trying to make sure you don’t get all this stuff planned out and your hopes up or something.  You might be pregnant, but this is totally new territory for guys.  Who knows if keeping the baby long enough inside of you is even possible.”  Said Marshall trying to make sure he didn’t say anything that would cause AJ to loose it.

AJ sighed.  “I know.”

Marshall hated to see AJ upset.  “Alex, why don’t we not think about that right now?  Lets just live in the present.”  He said as he pulled the car into the parking lot of University of Michigan.  “Why do I have the bad feeling that we are going to be spotted here?”

“Probably because it could happen.  But come on, we’re gunna be late!”  Exclaimed AJ as he jumped out of the car.

Marshall followed AJ into one of the buildings and stopped in front of an elevator.  “What floor do we have to go to?”

“Three.”

Once the elevator doors opened the men got on, trying not to make a big scene for the two young college girls already in the elevator.

The girls whispered to each other and stole glances at the odd looking men in the elevator.  Finally one got the courage and spoke up.

“You’re Eminem and AJ McLean, aren’t ya.”  Said the blonde haired girl.

AJ looked to Marshall for help, what were they supposed to say?

Marshall cleared his throat and put on a fake smile.  “If we give ya girls an autograph, do you promise not to say you saw us?”

The girls giggled and nodded, each handing the boys a notebook where they sighed.  “Thanks!”  They said together as they got off the elevator.

“That was a close one.”  Said AJ as he followed Marshall out of the elevator and down the hall.  “It’s the office at the end of the hall.  308.”

Marshall nodded and followed AJ down the hallway.  To say he was nervous would have been an understatement.  He was scared shitless. He turned to AJ and could see the same fear in the young man’s eyes. Once they were in front of the door that read 308, he sighed and looked to AJ.  “Everything is gunna be all right.”

AJ smiled and knocked on the door.  It took a few seconds before a nice looking young woman opened the door.

“You must be Mr. McLean, and Mr. Mathers.  Doctor Keller has been waiting for you.”  She said opening the door farther so the men could walk in.  “You can wait here for a second while I tell the doctor you are here.”

AJ and Marshall both nodded and took a seat on some chairs in the corner of the room.  Both men stayed silent lost in their own thoughts until the woman came back into the room.

“He will see you now.”

Marshall stood up first and held his hand out for AJ to take, and when he did they made their way hand in hand to a door way on the other side of the small office.  They were shocked when they walked through the door. There was a long hallway with at least five other doors on the other side.

“Go ahead down to the last door on your right.  The doctor should be in, in a few minutes.”  Said the woman, whom AJ assumed was Doctor Keller’s secretary.

AJ looked all around the small hallway in shock.  Pictures of all sorts of medical related things decorated the walls.  One picture caught his eye, and he stopped to look at it.  It was a picture or a pregnant woman holding her stomach protectively and smiling widely for the camera.

“You really want this don’t you.”

AJ turned around at the sound of Marshall’s voice.  Looking back at the picture he sighed.  “You have no idea how much I want that Marsh.”

Marshall put his arm around AJ’s waist. “Come on we can’t spend the whole time in the hallway.”

AJ smiled and finished walking the rest of the hallway huddled into Marshall’s protective embrace.  As they walked past one of the rooms they heard talking coming from inside.  Both men stopped because they were sure they knew that voice.

“Marshall, does that voice sound familiar?”

Marshall scrunched up his face as he concentrated on the voices coming from inside the other room.  But he didn’t have to think long because the doors opened and out walked two people they didn’t just know from passing on the street, but people they knew very well.

AJ looked at Nick in shock.  So many questions going through his head.  ‘Why is Nick here talking to this doctor?  Why is he here with Justin?  Am I losing my mind?’

Marshall wasn’t as quiet about what he was thinking.  “What the fuck are you two doing here?”

Nick jumped slightly at the tone in Marshall’s voice.  He was in just as much shock as AJ was to see him there.  In this doctors office no less.

At that moment doctor Keller walked out of the room and smiled.  “Hey there guys.  I see you all met up.”

“You knew they were coming?”  Asked all four men at the same time.

This caused Doctor Keller to laugh.  “Of course I knew you all were coming.

“You mean THEY are the other famous couple that is pregnant?”  Asked Justin in complete and utter amazement.

AJ looked at Justin like he had a second head.  “What do you mean the OTHER famous couple?  Who’s the OTHER one?

All of a sudden Nick saw his shoes as the most interesting thing in the room, or hallway in this case.  He never expected his best friend and band mate to find out about his sexual orientation this way. But here he was standing in the hallway with all eyes on him.  “Uhh, AJ I guess I have something to tell you.”

“No shit!”  Said AJ angrily.  This has got to be one of the craziest days in his life, and it wasn’t getting any better.

“Hey, don’t be talking to him like that!”  Justin yelled back putting a protective arm around Nick’s shoulders.

Nick sighed and looked at his angry friend.  Wait a second, why was AJ mad at him? Here they were in the exact same place, for he was sure the exact same reason.  Why would he be mad?  Ok, there was that little fact that he had been dating Justin for over a year, and hadn’t told anybody.  But that wasn’t really his fault.  Justin was the only gay person in Nsync, no matter what people thought of Lance, and he didn’t feel he could be out in the open about his relationship. But still AJ should be the one person that would understand.  Getting angry himself he pulled away from Justin’s protective arms and walked so he was face to face with AJ.  “You are a fucking hypocrite, you know that!”

To say he was shocked at Nick’s harsh words would have been the understatement of the century.  Marshall had never heard the younger man say more then a few angry words since he knew him.  And nothing could compare to what he just said.  Part of him wanted to punch the boy’s lights out for talking to AJ that way, but the other part of him understood.  Nick was right; AJ was acting like a hypocrite.  It had taken them at least ten months to finally come clean about their relationship to the guys.  He was finally going to say something but AJ spoke first.

“You’re right, I’m sorry Nick.  This just came as a shock ya know.  A really huge fucking shock.”

Nick smiled, glad that a fistfight wasn’t going to be involved because of his last statement.  “I didn’t mean to sound so angry Aje. Its just that well, yeah this did come as a shock.”

“Not as much of a shock as it was for us.  We told you yesterday that we thought I was pregnant.  Here we are finding out you think the same thing about yourself.”  Ok, that last thought almost sounded crazy to AJ.  The world was defiantly getting fucked up.

“Actually, I’m the one that’s pregnant.”

AJ turned to look at Justin in shock.  I guess that didn’t come as much of a surprise to him.  Justin always did seem like the type to be a bottom guy.  Actually him and Marshall had stayed up nights talking about that exact same topic. Something neither of them was planning on admitting to anybody.  “You know guys this is really fucked up.”

Everybody including Doctor Keller laughed.  Causing the boy band members and controversial rapper to remember the older mans presence in the room.

“So, we are all having babies?” Asked Marshall.

“Well, they are for sure.  We haven’t done any tests on Alex here.”  Doctor Keller said pointing at AJ to make his point.

Nick looked down at his watched and groaned.  “Justin, you have to be at sound check in an hour.  We should probably get going.”

Justin nodded and started walking down the hallway, turning around when he didn’t hear Nick following him.  He couldn’t help but feel a little jealous when he saw his boyfriend hugging AJ, but then he looked at the bleach blonde rapper, and knew he didn’t have any reason to be.  He knew the hug was just a good luck hug.

“Call me when you guys find out alright.  And we will all get together and talk about this ok?”  Said Nick giving AJ a brotherly hug.

AJ pulled away and smiled.  “Who would have thought this would be happening.  My god Nicky you’re gunna be a daddy.”

Nick smiled his famous Carter smiled and turned to see Justin watching him from down the hall.  “Howie better get his ass in gear huh, he’s the only member of backstreet that isn’t having a baby any time soon.”

AJ laughed and patted his friend on the back.  “Get going you big lug.  Lover boy is waiting for ya.”

Nick giggled and practically ran down the hallway towards Justin.

AJ shook his head and laughed again turning towards Marshall.  “Come on, lets go see if we are populating this lovely country of ours any time soon.”

Marshall laughed too and followed AJ into the room where they knew Doctor Keller had gone.  Sure enough he was already sitting down looking through a set of charts.  AJ cleared his throat as they walked into the room.

“Get everything figured out?”

AJ nodded.  “Sorry about that, to say things have gotten a little crazy would be an understatement.”

“I totally understand, but why don’t we see if we see what’s going on in that belly of yours.”

AJ jumped up on the examining table and looked all around the room.  It looked like a normal doctors office; besides a few other machines he wasn’t sure what they did.

Doctor Keller walked over the table and smiled.  “Can you take your shirt and jeans off for me.”

AJ did what he was told and stripped down to his boxers, smiling when he saw Marshall squirm slightly in his seat.  “Having trouble honey?”

Marshall glared at AJ and sat still, not wanting the doctor to catch on to what was happening.

Doctor Keller did catch on and winked at AJ.  “Mr. Carter, had to excuse himself halfway through the examination of Mr. Timberlake.”  He whispered with a laugh.

AJ smiled and laughed.  Oh this examination thing sounded kind of fun now.  He was sure he would have Marshall hot and willing by the time they got home that afternoon. That is if Marshall made it that far.  Even though Marshall pretty much hated to jack off these days, why do things yourself if you have a boyfriend, but he also hated being extremely hard too.  So, they would just have to see what would happen.

“Ok, lay back down on the table for me.  I think I’m going to skip the whole pregnancy test thing, and do an ultra sound.  From what I experienced from Mr. Timberlake earlier it’s very easy to tell if men are pregnant.  Also, doing things this way will save us time.”  Said Doctor Keller with a smile.

Marshall watched the doctor roll the waistband of AJ’s boxers down to almost the point where you would be able to see all of AJ.  He swallowed as the clear jell was rubbed onto his lovers lower stomach.

“I always thought people said that shit was cold.”  Said AJ commenting on how warm the jell was.

“We learned that if we keep it warm, it’s a little easier.”

AJ nodded and watched the doctor turn the ultrasound machine on and start moving it around his lower stomach.  He tried with all his might to understand what the screen was showing him, but all it looked like was a bunch of cotton and lines.  Finally after two minutes of silence, he thought he should say something.  “What’s it telling you?”

Doctor Keller smiled.   “Well, this right there is your bladder, and kidneys.”  He said pointing out the different organs to the men.  “Now, you see this isn’t normally where a man’s bladder and kidneys are located.  Normally they are right about there, and here.”  Again he pointed out the place where the organs should be.

“What the fuck does this all mean?”  Exclaimed Marshall getting slightly annoyed at the doctor.

“Marshall please.”  Said AJ through clinched teeth.  He didn’t need Marshall making a scene.

“What this means, Mr. Mathers is that there is this lovely empty space right about here.”  Doctor Keller drew in green a circle around what was indeed a nice empty cavity inside AJ’s abdomen.  “And, my boy’s that right there in the middle of that empty space is your baby.”
