"AJ," Brian called as he walked down the hallway of the hospital. When he reached AJ he saw all of the visual pain that his face expressed. "What the hell happened?"
"Nick came home and something pissed him off I guess and I heard a loud noice while I was asleep so I went down stairs to see what it was and I saw that Jen was on the floor and Nick had his foot on her stomach. It was horrible," AJ explained.
"Oh my god," Brian said, horrified.
"I brought her here right after to see if she and the baby are alright."
"I hope it is. Have you talked to any doctors yet?" Brian asked.
"No, not yet."
"How are you feeling?"
"Like shit. This is all my fault. I never should have had Nick move in."
"This isn't your fault. You couldn't have imagined this. You were only trying to do the right thing. I just wish that it didn't have to end like this," Brian said.
"This has to be killing Jen."
"I bet it is. She's probably in a lot of pain. So be there for her. Help her, love her, that's what she needs right now. She know's that you care."
"I hope she still thinks that."
"She does. Where's Anthony?"
"I dropped him off at her mothers."
"Oh alright."
"Guys," Howie said walking into the waiting room, "What happened?"
"Nick hurt Jen again," Brian said.
"How?"
"He had knocked her on the floor and when I got down stairs, he had his foot on her stomach," AJ replied softly.
"Damn it," Howie said.
"Fellas," Kevin said walking up to the guys, "What the fuck happened?"
"Well," AJ began to explain but was interupted.
"Excuse me gentalmen," a doctor said, "I would like to talk to the person that brought Jennifer here."
"That's me," AJ said.
"Okay, come with me," he said. AJ walked with the doctor to an area where they could be alone.
"Is Jen alright?" AJ asked.
"She'll be just fine. She was very lucky."
"How's the baby?"
"There's no easy way to say this, but the blow to her stomach caused her to miscarry. I'm sorry. She's going to have to stay here a few days so that we can keep an eye on her." AJ closed his eyes, he couldn't believe it. Nick had just taken from him something that can't be replaced.
"Can I see Jen?"
"Yes, but only for a minute," the doctor said.
"Okay thank you," AJ said. The doctor led AJ to Jens room and he went inside to see her laying on the bed, crying.
"AJ, the baby..." she said when she saw him come in.
"I know."
"I can't believe this. He did what she said he wouldn't. What are we going to do AJ?"
"I don't know Jen, I really don't know. I'm sorry for this. I did this to you, I shouldn't have brought Nick into the house. This never would have happened if I had just stayed out of it."
"No AJ, you didn't do any of this. You were only trying to be the better man, which let me tell you, you were. Thank you for that, but....," she paused, "the baby, our baby."
"It'll be alright. Nick's gone and he's never coming back to mess up our life again. I promise. We can always try for a baby again later on if you want to."
"Yeah, but I can tell you that it won't be anytime soon."
"I know, and I understand. The guys are here and they wanted to know if you were okay. I'm going to have to go in a minute so I'll tell them that you're okay."
"Yeah, okay."
"Sir," the doctor said opening the door, "you have to go no, she needs her rest."
"Alright," AJ said and turned to Jen and lightly kissed her cheek, "I'll be back in the morning okay Jen?"
"Yeah, don't forget about me," she said crying.
"Never," AJ said walking out of Jens room. He slowly walked back to the waiting room where the guys were waiting. Brian shot out of the chair that he was sitting in.
"So...," Brian said.
"She miscarried. She's going to spend a few days here," AJ said.
"AJ, man, I'm sorry," Brian said.
"Yeah, not as sorry as I am. This is my fault."
"No it's not AJ," Kevin said.
"Yes it is, I let him in the house. It was an invitation for him to do something like this. I should ha He ve known."
"There was no way...," Howie said.
"You, if you guys had just fucking stayed out of it, this wouldn't be happening. Why did you guys have to fuck with Nick like that?" AJ yelled.
"Okay if that's how you fell," Howie said, "we'll see you when you calm down and actually realize what you're saying." Brian, Howie and Kevin got up and walked out of the waiting room leaving AJ alone. His head fell back and a single tear escaped his eye.
