Chapter 18 *A few days later* As Nick laid in his bed, in which he hadn't left in days, he began to wonder why all this had happened. He and Nicole were happy when they were together. They were perfect for each other, why did she have to marry this other guy. It was him who she should be marrying, There was no way that Nick was ever going to get over this. Though he was happy for her, he knew that he could never completely understand why she was with this other guy. Nick was the one that she loved, he knew that. He had been there for her when she needed someone to talk to, when she needed a shoulder to cry on, not this other guy. He just came a long after she moved and practically took everything that Nick had ever cherished. His heart had been broken, when they decided to see other people how was he supposed to know that by agreeing to that, he would lose her. If he did, he never would have agreed to it. Brian had called again and again and again, but Nick just didn't want to talk, he let the machine get it each time. He hadn't talked to Nicole since the day he found out that her wedding was soon. She was the only one that he wanted to talk to. It was her that always helped him feel better about anything and now she was gone. What was he going to do with himself? She was his whole world, she was everything to him. He knew that he loved her more than anything and no matter what he said, he would never be able to convince her to be with him. Nick whiped a tear that rolled down his cheek. All of this was really breaking his heart. He really needed to talk to someone, anyone. He picked up the phone and dialed in Brians number. After a few rings Brian answered. "Hello?" he said. "Bri, its Nick," he said trying to hide how sad he was. "Nick, where have you been? I've been calling and calling. Everyone is worried about you. Stacy told AJ what happened and he told everyone else. We want to know if you're ok." "Well, I've been home, in my room not wanting to talk to anyone. I just needed to talk to someone. I'm going crazy here, I need help." "Whats wrong?" "Nicole is getting married soon. I can't deal with that. When we agreed to see other people, I never thought that she would end up marrying some other guy. I am never going to get over this." "Nick, look, you are just going to have to accept that she met someone. You to are still friends and you should be greatful for that. A lot of people don't even have that. Be happy for her, she's happy. She has to be other wise she wouldn't be taking this step with this guy. Just remember that you are always going to be important to her." "I know. I don't want to be just friends." "Then maybe you shouldn't be in her life. If you aren't going to accept the fact that she is with someone else, then maybe you should have her around because then you will always know that there is someone else." "This is really hard." "I bet it is. Maybe we should go out, ya know, hang out or something. Maybe if you get some fresh air, you'll have a clearer mind." "No, I just want to stay here." "Are you sure?" "Yeah." "Alright, but if you change your mind call me. I'll hang out with you. We can play basketball or video games, whatever you want." "Thanks, but I don't think I'll be calling." "Ok," Brian said knowing that he can't give up on him. Luckily, this was happening when they had time off because other wise who knows what kind of impact this would have on Nick. This was hard enough, he didn't need the added stress that the group added. "Bye," Nick said and hung up the phone. "How's he doing?" AJ asked as Brian hung up the phone. The other guys looked at Brian knowing that Nick wasn't happy at all. They all knew that he wouldn't be. He cared very much about Nicole and they knew that, but what they wished they knew was how to help him. "Not to good," he can't seem to get over Nicole," Brian said. "He never will," Howie said. "I know, but he can't just stay at his house and be alone all the time, he needs to get out of there, I think that will help him," Brian said. "It doesn't matter what you think. He's going to mope around no matter what any of us say," AJ said, "he cared about her. You can't blame him for being upset. She's marrying someone other than him. It all probably seems unreal to him. If I was in the same situation, I would probably take it the same way he is. Especailly considering that he really did care about her." "You're right, I know that, but he just can't stay inside all the time," Brian said, only trying to be a good friend. "We just have to wait and let him make his own decision. If I've learned anything this past year, its that when you have a problem, you have to help yourself get over it. I'm not saying that he has a problem, he loved her and he lost her and hes not sure how to deal with it. Which is totally normal. When he is ready to move on, he will," AJ said. "I just hate to see him like this," Brian said. "I do to and thats why I thought that Stacy would be a good thing for him, thats why I introduced them. I figured that maybe she would help him move on, at least partly anyway. Then when she talked to me and told me what happened, I was like that boy is in love with Nicole. I didn't think too much of them before, I don't think any of us did. But then this happened and I guess we all saw just how much he cared for her. I know I'm not the only one that noticed that he's been different since they broke up." "Yeah..." Howie said, "but how can we help him?" "I don't know," AJ said looking at Howie. "What if he went to see her?" Brian suggested. "What?" AJ asked stunned. "Yeah, what if we tell him to fly to New York to see her? Maybe if they talked to each other face to face he might be able to get over it." "What if it doesn't help? He'd feel like he flew all the way up there for no reason, just to be hurt even more. I don't think he's ready for that risk." "Yeah, I guess you're right," Brian said. "We're just going to have to let him figure this one out for himself," AJ said. Chapter 19 |
