It is an educational program which provides students with problem-solving opportunities. Students as young as 5 years of age through college age are eligible to compete if their school has a team. Students use creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to complete a designated task that can range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. Competetors in Odyssey of the Mind compete at the local, state and national levels. Participants come from throughout the U.S. and approximately 25 other countries.
Campers at Camp Life are given an opportunity to be introduced to Odyssey of the Mind in hopes that it will spark an interest and motivate them to participate at their school and compete at the local, state and national levels against their peers, regardless of thier visual impairments.
Campers are divided into teams of 5 to 6 students. They are required to create a product that could be used to assist a person in the kitchen. The campers also decide how they are going to market the product, how much it would cost and a name the finshed product. The students are able to use many different materials with different textures, sizes and colors.
