Events of Military significance on this day:
 1549Battle of Farrington Bridge. Royalists under Lord Russell defeated Cornish rebels during Arundel's Rebellion.
 1689Battle of Killiecrankie. 2,500 Highland Jacobites defeat 4,500 Royalists under General Mackay. When Mackay reached Stirling he was down to only 400 men.
 1779Battle of Ushant. First major naval battle of the Revolutionary War. The two fleets sailed past each other, shot off some guns, and generally made a lot of noise, but not much else.
 1953Armistice signed ending the Korean War. No peace treaty has ever been negotiated.
