 1460Battle of Roseburgh. Scots capture and destroy Roseburgh. First use of cannon by Scottish forces. In hindsight, maybe that was not a good idea since their King was killed when an artillery piece exploded.
 1492Columbus sets sail for 'the Indies'.
 1758Battle of Negapatam. English fleet severely damaged French fleet of the Coromandel coast.
 1770Battle of Kagul. 17,000 Russians attack and defeat Turkish army of 150,000 supported by 80,000 Tartar allies.
 1777British lay siege for three weeks to Fort Stanwix.
 1944Chinese and American forces capture Myitkyina, Burma.
