 1835Bolivia gains it's independence
 1870Battle of Spicheren. Prussians force French to retreat during the Franco-Prussian War.
 1870Battle of Wörth. Outnumbered, the French using chassepot rifles and mitrailleuse machine-guns held out for eight hours, then retreated having lost nearly one third of their forces.
 1945the Atom Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima by the Enola Gay.
